Description
Ever since I saw an illustration of a chainmail bikini for the very first time, I knew something was amiss. Later in life, when I picked up a pencil with a conscious decision I would become an illustrator, I knew that one day I might be called upon to paint a breastplate with a cleavage cut out. So far I was able to avoid painting any of that “sexy female armour” crap. Today I am conscious of the fact, that if a decent paying client comes along and my schedule happens to be clear, I will probably not be able to say no. But as any self respecting little whore, I do have one very important rule…
The first time will be on my terms.
Here's a little quiz for your consideration:
1. A female warrior's main concern is to stay:
a) alive
b) sexy
2. The main purpose of a man's armour is to:
a) look fierce
b) protect vital organs
3. The main purpose of a woman's armour is to:
a) protect vital organs
b) accentuate cleavage, waistline, hips and legs
4. To blow a runny nose, a man uses:
a) a MAN-SIZED tissue
b) a tissue
5. To carry personal items, a man can use:
a) a man-bag
b) a bag
6. To protect her vital organs, a female warrior uses
a) armour
b) female armour
7. Form follows:
a) function
b) the 90-60-90 ratio

Well, I know I'm late to the party, but figured I'd give my two cents. While I admit, I enjoy the aesthetic of "female armor" and even feature it in a lot of my works, you're depiction of its practical use in combat is spot on (insofar as these "armors" are concerned). Don't get me wrong, I actually prefer looks, but I can't deny the (lack of) functional use for this type of revealing armor. However, while there are no historic examples of "female armor" (because armor was armor, and if a woman wanted to fight, she'd simply wear the armor that was available at the time), armor was still designed with looks and aesthetics in mind, specifically for male soldiers who historically did most of the warfighting. With that said, if there was a society where women did most of the fighting rather than the men, it wouldn't be out of the ordinary to see (practical) armor aesthetically designed with the female figure in mind.
There's actually an excellent video by a one Shadiversity on YouTube that covers this topic in great detail, definitely worth looking at (www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBtvS5… )
Hmm... you know, a lot of my previous female armor designs place emphasis on appearance over function, even in cases where I try to balance this in my later works; your piece gives me an idea for a future design and artwork. Excellent work here btw

Ahh, feminists. Making "missing the point and ruining everybody's fun" a way of life. I remember when I used to be afflicted with it, but it was temporary and I got better.

I really love this piece. I think this is why I can never play those types of games that have this uhhh... Type of Armor since to me itd boggle my mind as to why someone would run around in that enchanted or not. Also it always raises questions "Are ALL these girls okay running around in that?" "What happens if they're in a snowy place" "Doesnt it make sense to tie their hair back too since hair usually gets in the way of fighting??"
Just as well I've always had a fondness for seeing women in a full set of armor because to me it just looks badass and I think anyone would choose protection over looks any days :]
Anyways wonderful job! Honestly I see a LOT of revealing armored girls on the What's Hot Category but seeing this is definately a day brightener and makes me very happy some people prefer this armor over the revealing one x3

For my part, I wholly endorse slutty armor, but that's because I'm the kind of bastard that looks forward to this outcome.

fuck, how I love this illustration because it really shows what happens when these "warriors" have those "armors" fight with someone in TRUTH armor. Because they really would be dead.
For that reason sometimes I do not like the series of fantasies or videogames and etc since the majority happens that. just because placing them with real armor would not be "attractive".
so to eat shit those bitches

Everyone in the comments, missing the point: "Wow this is so sexy! You know, topless women fighting is historically accurate! Why do you hate armor bikinis, you know in fantasy settings they are still protective because of m a g i c?!"

Hi there,
I just love this piece. For me its the battle between two realities. The high-fantasy fictional worlds of D&D and Pathfinder with their magical protections vs the non-magical but fictional history with non-magical protection.
Anything with females as active combatants I call fiction. Its not historical. That there female knight might be in historical attire, but her being a warrior is as much real history as Game of Thrones.
The bikini warriors are also fiction, but from a high fantasy environment where magic provides good protection and non-magical armour provides less protection.
Each one in the others environment is vulnerable as the bikini warriors deprived of their magic protections are finding. The mundane knight in a high magic environment would be in a similar position.
Have a great day and bye for now.

Not to disprove your point, and I do agree with what you are saying. But, saying that anything with female combatants is fiction because it didn't happen historically is untrue. The steppe people actually were more than happy to have women fight, the scythians inspired the amazons of Greek myth, Scandinavian women were permitted to fight and they did go on raids with men, in Ireland the fiana the wandering warriors had females, there were female samurai, admittedly they didn't fight to often on the front line but they still fought. Many African tribes had no problem with female warriors.
Once again not saying everything you said is wrong, just correcting the fact you said woman fighting is historically inaccurate when it really isn't.

Hi there Will.
"Anything with females as active combatants I call fiction."
You got me there. By my own reading, history does provide examples of some societies allowing females to engage in warfare.
I would just ask, was it the norm? Were females given the same rights and opportunities? Did a levy of 'able bodied men' include females?
Joan of Arc by herself proves that a female knight existed, but she may be one for the few examples of a female knight. It still remains contentious whether she was in anything more than a figurehead role.
How many female roman legionaries were there? Was there ever a female legion commander? Society does a good job of enforcing societal norms and these are usually gender based. Even today, females are only recently being allowed to apply for combat roles in the military of some nations.
Have a great day and bye for now.
ps It was exellent to hear from you and thank you for correcting my over-simplification.

This is an absolute stunning piece of work. The concept behind it is pretty cool as well although I'm part of the problem if I'm honest as I love the concept of the minimal chain mail bikinis.
Anyway, that blonde looks amazing and it almost looks like she's not as much of a pushover as the other fallen girls with her defiant stance and stylish outfit. I'd actually like to see her surprise the armoured girl.
Anyway, truly beautiful art ... that blonde ...
Also, having the other one wipe her sword on the skirt is a nice creative touch.

Then there's timefactor. I mean in what year are we? Considering the armor and I mean the full plate armor, I'd say about 1489?
Now I know there's a lot of fantasy that targets that particular year, but I myself prefer 1300 or 1200 when I'm speaking of the medieval times, otherwise I don't see it as medieval at all. Most historians would consider this correct. This is the age of discovery, not the medieval ages. Fantasy is suppose to be about the 14th century, not 16th or the 17th. Now when I think about it, indeed maybe 14th and earlier, that's why we call it medieval fantasy. But then there's all kind of ages that fantasy uses, so does technology or clothes matter, when she pulls out her plasma blaster and destroys your knight?
