**Requires Full View**This was done at the request of an Ai buddy of mine, but I also did this for all the people who have been curious as to how I go about creating detailed backgrounds in flash. This treatment is light, but it's enough to get you started if you're already somewhat familiar with the Flash interface. I hope this helps you some, I had fun making my first tutorial to share with all of you!

This tutoral is a real help for me, but I have a small question, if it's alright with you.
How does one create new layers in Flash? I have my program opened right now and it's baffling me completely.. If you could help meout it would be a real lifesaver.

I doubt I'll be able to make much use of this tutorial but you use this technique so well that I must make a note of it for future referance (so that if my skills do ever increase I might have better luck with it)

Sorry to bother you, but i have a question about something. Was this scene a zoom? I was just confused because I saw that there were nested symbols in the gradient, and I couldnt figure out why you would need to make them nested even if it was a zoom. If you could give me some insight into this, it would be awesome, because I'm still trying to get comfortable in the program and I want to understand all the possibilities.

Yes, the shot was a rapid truck-in (zoom), but for organizational purposes, I usually like to nest the symbols. It's just a personal way of working around the symbols and keeping track of them.

Just out of interest... how long does it take for you to make one background (ie from the time you open flash)?

It varies depending on the background, but I might spend a few hours or even a whole day on a nicely detailed BG, especially if there are several layers for multiplaning.
