Description The Providence-class Dreadnought, designed by Quarren engineers on the planet Pammant was extensively deployed by the naval forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars, as well as the private fleet of the Trade Federation, as command ships. Beside the Lucrehulk class, the Providence was one of the largest and most powerful series produced vessels that served within the confederate government, armed with heavy turbolasers, ion cannons and mass-driver cannons capable of tearing apart light frigates and support ships in a single blast.

Consisting of two models, one that measured to 1,088 meters, and another at 2,000 meters in length.
Due to simple construction and a highly modular interior, the Providence-class was configurable for a variety of different roles. Such roles included planetary assault, commandship, and a carrier variant for starfighters, which gave the craft versatility and made it more useful to their operators in contrast to other specialized vessels.

The Confederacy flagship, the Invisible Hand was a Providence class Dreadnought and was used by General Grievous in a decisive assault against the Galactic Republic's capital planet Coruscant in an attempt to capture Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine. However, during the battle, the ship was boarded and crash landed on Coruscant.

Following the end of the Clone Wars and the transition of the Republic into the Galactic Empire in 19 BBY, most of the Providence-class Dreadnoughts were decommissioned and sent to the junkyard to strip the ships from the valued materials. It is known, that at least two of these ships were aquired by the Rebel Alliance in the fight against the Empire.
