Description
A while ago, i made a Starship Comparison for most of the larger size SciFi-Hero ships, such as the Galactica, the Andromeda Ascendant, Star Treks Galaxy class USS Enterprise, the Moya or Star Wars Imperial class Star Destroyer. (you can find it here: fav.me/d9gbjeo )
Now after lots and lots of request which ended in my mailbox who asked how big the Orville is, i made this image. More or less most of the major mid or small size Hero ships.
The list does not claim to be complete.
For the size of the White Star please note, that we had seen three different scales during the show.
In first they worked with an size between 120 to 260 meters. The original dimensions made some parts of the ship far too small to walk through, especially after accounting for hull thickness and the size for the shuttlecrafts etc. This was especially problematic at the neck to the bridge module and for the shuttlebay which should be able to hold four Minbari fighters. Designer Jim Earls, who joined B5 in Season 4 scaled up the ship to the 475 meters. The new scale was officially approved by JMS and the producers and is now the size to which the animators must scale.

A common comment on some Internet community is that we (and writers too) don't see how big ships are.
Serenity is 82m long and that's small? It's the length of WW1 era destroyers.

It is really tiny for a ship capable of travelling across an entire star system in a matter of weeks. To accelerate/decelerate a ship like that would require pretty enormous amounts of fuel and propellant, not to mention a powerful reactor and all the shielding and containment tech associated with that. Then of ourse you'd need life support for the crew, artificial gravity gizmo, recycling equipment, hangar bays for the shuttles, etc., etc...
Having enough living space for a crew of 9 to comfortably live together with separate rooms - and for a bounty hunter to easily hide aboard - on top of all that, all squeezed inside a 82-meter ship, doesn't sound particularly believable. But like I said, Firefly was never particularly hard SF - I just always kind of assumed the ship was at least twice as big.

Well... they build the ship on real size so the living quarter would fit inside.
And for engines... We are talking about engines beyond our actual tech so...
What is more problematic is telling us Voyager could only hold 38 torpedo and 141 crewmember when it's bigger than a Enterprise/Nimitz/Ford class super carrier.

Using vague future technology that somehow allows incredible feats our current understanding of physics says should be impossible is a sure sign of soft SF. This is not necessarily a bad thing, though - I still very much enjoyed Firefly as a series. However, the truth remains that even fusion engines operating at maximum theoretical efficiency would still gobble up quite a bit of space - not to mention all the support and shielding equipment one would need.
The Voyager never seemed particularly crowded to me - I guess most of its systems were simply heavily automated, so it didn't need more crew members. Not sure if there ever was an explanation why they couldn't use their replicators to build more torpedoes. Given what transporters have been used to teleport photon torpedoes in the past, replicating them endlessly shouldn't be a problem...

Voyager fired more torpedo than it should have based on season 1 declarations.
What is unrealistic is a big that big carrying just 38.

Maybe it was carrying less than usual?

It's origina mission was to save Tuvok from the Maquis inside the Nest of the Maquis....

The Starfleet was going through some major budget cuts at the time.
