That is amazing! Where is this? Great shot! It looks like he's on the water! great! I love the ballence. This really looks like a photo that could have gotten harsh, with the contrast, but you did it perfectly!

Thanks! I kinda lament that I didn't attempt to blur the glare of the Sun; thanks for the reassurance regarding its contrasts.
It was taken at a local (southern California) beach -- Balboa / Newport, if memory serves.

Awesome shot. Love the way the sun reflects in the waves and darkens the background.
Congrats

I love it! What lens was this taken with? Very clean capture.

18-55mm EF-S (20D kit lens). The resultant shot was really soft and has been sharpened quite a bit. It's unfortunately not as clean as it looks from a distance.

Ah, nice post-processing work then. It's got quality of a Canon L lens. Goodies!

lighting is gorgeous. did you use any optical filters for this effect?
again, well composed and very nicely shot.

No filters used. I almost always shoot with a haze/UV filter but, for this scene, a screwed up a viewpoint as possible was necessary.
Thanks!

very interesting concept ...maybe it's my monitor(probably is) , but the gradient looks a lil choppy...however the reflections on the water are lovely!

Naw -- it is slightly choppy due to contrast adjustments. I'm almost glad that someone noticed. I felt as though I was getting away with something that I shouldn't have been.
Thanks.

All I can really say is WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW! If this were I print, it would sooo be on my wall! I love the image of the person kind of looking scary or wary at the light. And the bare feet giving it a sort of humble look. At least, I think they're bare. The water almost seems as if it's washing away the unpurities. I love the whole concept. Where this is what you were thinking or not, that's what I got from it. =^^= Amazing!

That's mostly how I envisioned it but felt a little conflicted regarding the significance of the water in which he stood. I initially saw it as a sort of visual metaphor for Jesus' water-related antics but then began to think of it in terms of purification and of beginning anew amidst desolation.
Thanks!

well done eurai. I like the toning of the shot. are you a christian?

Oh, man -- I'm rarely able to effectively answer that sort of query. I'm more Christian than I am of other faiths, but I don't really follow anything dogmatic. I've a sort of mutt-like system of belief: it's cobbled together from a variety of religious principles and concepts. I've nevertheless a somewhat extensive knowledge of Christianity and am fascinated by what certain sects believe the Bible to foretell (e.g. the Rapture).
Thanks.

all is natural ? or is there some edition ?

eurai In reply to GoranDA [2006-01-09 21:25:49 +0000 UTC]
Natural aside from a few alterations: contrast increased, a few choppy ripples removed, slightly dodging around its silhouette, and cropped from its original aspect ratio.
Thanks!
