Dear Writer,I don’t like you. I’ve never liked you. Unfortunately, I need you. I need you to tell my story. I need you to create my world. I need you to set me free.
I need your fingers typing on those keys, I need your mind riddling out the problems, and I need you to plough onward and upward no matter how hard it gets. Sweat, blood, and tears, I don’t care. You’ve got to fight this war, battle at a time, and win it. So I can be more.
It’s a slim hope, but it is the only one I have. In your head I am bound to mortality, frailty, and the limit of your meagre imagination. Out there – out there – I am subject to no one person. Out there I am bound to only black on white. Words on a page. Words that can lay seeds within a million minds. Out there I am a story capable of growing, moving, and stealing the dreams of anyone who learns of me…
I don’t like you. I’ve never liked you. I hate your lack of dedication, your flashes of crumbling inspiration, and your slow blotchy writing style. I despise my entrapment within your small trembling mind, so prone to distraction; and scowl down at those other ideas all vying for the attention you should be showing me.
I don’t like you. But I need you.
So, creator, I ask you yet again; publish me, set me free, and if you can somehow will your poor, misshapen, abilities into managing that then perhaps I will rethink my opinion of you.
But don’t hold your breath.

I feel like this is the exact relationship I have with writing. Except the idea is a bit bitchier and comes and goes as it pleases.

This... This is amazing. I understand it perfectly, because I'm frustrated at myself when I go through these things too. My ideas probably hate me, but they need me at the same time... That's somewhat a sad thought that they're stuck with someone who can't get anything done.

I usually don't read short stories. But this idea (ironic) is so genius! I've read stuff about people sending letter, (A letter to myself, is an example) and stuff, but never to a writer!!! I don't know how you came up with this, this is really nice!

Hilarious. I love this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" situations, where two beings who could not hate each other more have to team up for some mutual goal, in this case, the creation of the oh so elusive work worth publishing.
I adore the seething hatred and the numerous jabs at the writer's flaws, and the defeated way The Idea confesses that they need each other.

This is that thing ALL people need once in a while, to remind themselves why they started what they did, and inspire them to continue. Though, I will admit it has a sort of threatening aura to it, the letter still has a sense of hope, if that makes sense?

Not necessarily. Omission of some words, especially those who are obviously present, is quite common in writing...or he forgot to write it.

it was simply a question as to whether it was intentional or a simple mistake. now go find some more keshan eggs soul eater.

This... is actually one of the most inspiring things I have ever written. That a character is more than just an Idea has always been an interesting concept, and I have always liked to think thus, but taking it to a whole new level, and making the Idea itself have a cynical, tired personality, aching to be free... That is a work of genius.
You are an excellent writer, good sir. This kind of work is hard to come by these days.

I didn't even know I was going to like this, but I've read this to the end, and it caught me. When a writer says "I have to think what the character would think", they never think on this. Of course, those characters aren't real, but they create emotions, feelings, and whoever read their adventures, their tragedies, would feel what the character (real or not) feels. You had a great idea when you wrote this, good work.

This resonates in so many ways it's almost shattering. I've often considered what the creations of my stories could possibly say to me if they had a voice of their own, and from what I've either done, or not done, with them I feel that they would despise me, if not for the things I put them through, for the ways I hold them back from being something great.
I think every writer out there can relate to this, can understand the depth to this small scramble of words because it's something that anyone who creates a character would consider at some point; how would our characters look at us? How do they feel about us as their handlers, their creators and the ones who not only guide their paths into the world but make them as well....
I think I rambled senselessly just then, but in short, I have to say that I absolutely love this piece.

I loved this so much, that I read it allowed to one of my family members. I felt that this has strong voice, as all the characters that people have created are sitting behind the words. One of my most favorite pieces of writing, no, probably my most favorite piece of writing on DA so far.

This is rather brilliant! It's exactly what I imagine most characters think of their creators. It's an interesting glimpse into the mind of something not even fully created.

I've liked plenty of writing on DA, but short of full on stories, this is one of the few pieces that I've really connected with and that I think will stick with me for a long time, even if the words themselves fade. Very well done; I'm glad you let your idea speak to us

This is very inspirational, seriously-a great idea! This got me thinking about my 'never-to-be-written-novels', and actually made me realize how little time I'm spending on my own stories...I really should do something about that!

I find this letter extremely simulating with its addressing concept of a symbolic mutualism between a writer and a idea, especially to those who are struggling with self-doubt, with writer's block, and against procrastination. I can relate this piece of literature more than anything else I've read in the past month or so, because I have lost sight of what's important in writing: the Idea.
It does feel like the Idea is reminding me what I strive for and stand for by insulting me with my faults. Ironically, it doesn't discourage me at all. Instead, it motivates me more than ever to sit down and write.
Thank you for sharing this letter, EvilpixieA. This letter was the inspiration, wake-up call, and starter boost that I desperately needed to write. Hope that you will a daily deviation with this.
