Description
Dear Writer,I don’t like you. I’ve never liked you. Unfortunately, I need you. I need you to tell my story. I need you to create my world. I need you to set me free.
I need your fingers typing on those keys, I need your mind riddling out the problems, and I need you to plough onward and upward no matter how hard it gets. Sweat, blood, and tears, I don’t care. You’ve got to fight this war, battle at a time, and win it. So I can be more.
It’s a slim hope, but it is the only one I have. In your head I am bound to mortality, frailty, and the limit of your meagre imagination. Out there – out there – I am subject to no one person. Out there I am bound to only black on white. Words on a page. Words that can lay seeds within a million minds. Out there I am a story capable of growing, moving, and stealing the dreams of anyone who learns of me…
I don’t like you. I’ve never liked you. I hate your lack of dedication, your flashes of crumbling inspiration, and your slow blotchy writing style. I despise my entrapment within your small trembling mind, so prone to distraction; and scowl down at those other ideas all vying for the attention you should be showing me.
I don’t like you. But I need you.
So, creator, I ask you yet again; publish me, set me free, and if you can somehow will your poor, misshapen, abilities into managing that then perhaps I will rethink my opinion of you.
But don’t hold your breath.
~ The Idea

Very cool! It reminds me of the play Six Characters In Search of an Author.

This is SO TRUE. You finally put words to the idea that's slowly and determinedly trying to possess and kill me from the inside.

as a writer I love this! I can relate, i am that person who fights and cries and then puts it aside until the ideas get old and almost wither and die. I need to remember to treat my ideas more carefully and polish them to perfection, so they can shine!
Thank you!

You are right, this writing is quite shabby.
But I like the idea.
You should continue.

I know this is a written piece for writers, but even for me as an Artisan this hit home. It's like all those designs and roughly shappen ideas that are aimlessly laying on my jewelry boards got up and punched me in the face. Making very clear they want to be made into reality and be worn, loved and admired not just by me but by the entire outside world.

Dear idea:
Thanks for that. I'm throwing the characters responsible for you into the meat grinder again. Then again, that's probably exactly what you wanted.

Woah. This is really something else! I really, really love the message that was behind this one.
I thought it was going to be another rant, but it turned out to be a piece of prose that was in the perspective of the piece that was getting written, but neglected.
Ha ha, I really should think of my unfinished ideas as frustrated and truly resenting me, because I neglected them for something else.
I think this piece is something every writer should read. It might just give us motivation to continue on, even if our own work is not perfect.

I read this & it's an intriging concept , , it can be said & I myself know that a well written story &or characters live on -- it might be said in another dimension , a dimension of substance made from a persons - a humans thought

yes but a story & the characters in that story should either be intigrated into their storyline &/or be able to evolve on their own
a story if not well written could fall apart so easily

I agree but also a writer can also get to bogged down in trying to write & create the story , the writer can get too bogged down in details in (writing/thinking about) the story he's witing , , like occasionally I myself get bogged down into giving too much detail(s) &or thought into the story I'm writing & have to do something else for awhile

I feel like everyone else here has voiced the same thought: this /feels/ like a physical blow to all us writers out here, especially with all the frustrated undertones. Sometimes it feels like we, the writers, can't get the words out onto the page, but this right here turns it around and makes it so that all these wonderful ideas that may be swirling around in our heads /want/ to get out. It would be an injustice to them otherwise. Excellent work. :]

Yet again because we are human, we have room to grow. You know what Idea! Challenge accepted! And guess what, I have people backing me up! P.S. Show your creator some respect!

Very powerful indeed! This is exactly what the doctor ordered! I've been struggling with revision on a story I wrote myself last November. I really need to sit down and do some corrections and revision. So this, is clearly something I needed to read as well. It's like the kick in the tush from any character to any creator! I'm going to fave this, because it is that powerful, and serves as a reminder of what writers go through.

Personally, I think that ideas/inspiration seek to bond with the mind and effort of the author. Contempt ("I've never liked you") would weaken or destroy this link between them.
An idea would approach delicately, yet firmly, knowing the strengths as well as the weaknesses of the mind she chooses. I just can't imagine her like a diva who's like, "I'm doing you a favour as I lurk on your mind." Inspiration is often a part of the writer's experiences, passions and knowledge. It even thrives on what haunts the author.

To my beloved Idea,
I understand that you call me once and every so often to be set free, onto a blank page that will make you a reality. An artwork, an attraction to other people, who have other ideas that needed to be set free. But, unfortunately, you yell at me telling him/her that writer's block is a fake, it's a curse that destroys motivation and inspiration. You say that you hate us and yet you need me, like a child tugging on a mother's arm, just to get something that s/he wants and if not, they let out temper tantrums.
You were born out of a figment of my imagination and yet you complain, you whine. My dear Idea, you bother me with no bound. You never stop doing what you do best. When you thought I was going to forget you, I never had...and yet, you left. You didn't complain like you used to, you didn't bother me about setting you free anymore. You sank to the bottom, hidden in the corners of my mind, hoping that I won't be able to find you again. But, I didn't.
Silly Idea, I kept looking for you, digging every corner of my mind to find you. I never forgot about you, I never had! You have every right to hate me and I won't resist. Since you are the reason to make me become more motivated, you push me to write, you did it to become real. Your never-ending complaints make me more active than before! As of now, I'm writing a story for you.
Being a writer is never easy as I have to construct every sentence with the most delicate words that could describe you in the best way, to be able to express my words through you, Idea to others at its brightest. You'll shine and sparkle, just like the stars in the night sky, you'll receive everyone's compliments and replies from all around the world. You, Idea, will be the center of everyone's attention.
So, my dearest Idea, will you continue to stay in my mind a little longer?
From,
The Writer
( My feels are tingling and it points me right here!)

This really made me pause and think, it's a beautiful and sad concept- especially considering all the unfinished and unloved ideas there are out there, I know I have plenty!
More than that, it made me think of all the drama that goes on daily in dA; all the self-pity and whining, the b!tching and bullying, the general thoughtless and pointless behaviour, and made me consider anew that this site is about sharing and celebrating imagination and creation. It would be nice if this would remind other deviants of this fact too, consequently I have recommended it for a DD- fingers crossed it gets it!

Wow, talk about a wake-up call! I'm guilty of ignoring Idea too, but most of the time I can't find enough time to get it across paper. Sometimes the Idea strikes, but I don't have the proper words to appease her. I love how passive-aggressive she is, though, sassy and snarky!

Wow, I love this, I truly love this! I love the original idea/format you used for this! "The idea" addressing the writer himself, how original and creative!!!
And it's so recognisable and true. My ideas hate me as well, for butchering their beauty with my incompetence, for forgetting them, even though they are amazing, for not putting my heart and soul into them but saying "Nah, that's too hard, I can't do it." They HATE me to death for that, and I hate them for ALWAYS popping up at wrong moments, but just like night and day, like sun and rain, we need each other, forever.
