Description Finished in one sitting, 6 hours straight. I have a whole heap of process shots. Canvas was a pain to put together but it was so much fun, I ended up going nuts with the staple gun. Paint was taking too long to dry because I was using heaps of water for the drip effects so I ended up going to town with a hairdryer. Ridiculous amounts of fun and I really want to start doing more of these.

I was playing around with titles and I liked the sound of "Nothing Lasts but the Human Heart" but decided it was so good that I'd save if for something else, maybe once I've refined my ideas more. The whole concept of this hinges on fragmentation and transience; decay and the passage of time, but simultaneously how the human imagination and emotion are the only things that last throughout time as dreams and stories. Beautifully existentialist with a twist of poetic optimism. Artist at heart, can't help it.

It's nowhere near as effective as a photo because the scale doesn't come through, the details and textures are reduced and you don't get the layering and shadows from different angles. I'll post some angled shots in a bit to show how the light acts on the work from different angles. Considering different ways to display it, want it suspended a few centimetres from the wall either by fishing wire or attaching a foam block to the back. Really want the sculptural effect with the fragmented edge to come through; otherwise canvas is futile.

Don't know if I should enable prints because I don't know how it works and I'm sure nobody would buy it. Still, I'm happy with it. Hoping this gets into Top Arts but that's a pipe dream since I'm fucked for the rest of the folio. Honestly, I don't care what people do with it. When the whole concept of your art hinges around things decaying over time you really don't give a damn. If it were up to me, I would burn this artwork, but I need it to last long enough to get assessed.

My most ambitious work thusfar, 22 individual sheets of A4 watercolour paper ripped from a sketchbook, stapled and taped. Watercolour on paper. Total dimensions are about 150 x 85cm.

Hope you all enjoy.

Thank you very much Yeah I was really happy with this one. It was done for my Studio Arts assessment for school and I'm submitting it to Top Arts, which is a display of the best student works every year. It's actually a lot more impressive in life because it's like 143cm top to bottom.

I think it's more effective than a photo, a portrait without some photoshop effects talks more to me because of the handmade touch. this is a really good piece of work!

Thank you very much! Yeah I've really gotten heavily into traditional painting lately, pretty much haven't touched anything digital for a year

Love the effect! the work in the sheets was well worth it. The colours came out amazingly - especially for the eyes!

Thanks! Yeah I'm really happy with it I'll upload a photo of it as an installation because the scale and shape almost make it sculptural.
