Description
Your body is a gobletOf halfway-precious stones,
Fit to bear only
The second-best Nazarene wines,
That, for all their exquisite texture,
Are best savoured alone
In the privacy of one's cellar,
Not to be coveted
Your body is a block of wood
Floating in the ocean,
That once belonged in the hull of a ship
Sailing towards Babylon,
Propelled onwards by friendly weather,
Not the most reliable of aids,
Perhaps hewn from the ribs of a tree
In some garden far from Mesopotamia
Your body is a temple
That I visit on occasional Sundays,
Kneel upon smooth alabaster floors
And pray for something like salvation.
