To My Lord
I have done as you have instructed, the foul beast has been slain. The souls that were lost at Norfall and Geriny have been avenged. As you know, it took me several days to reach the town of Geriny, and this gave the beast a head start. Thankfully it turned out the disease had slowed its progress, allowing me to catch up on horseback quickly. After following the telltale signs of its passage, I found the cave it inhabited. I do not wish to fall for the sin of pride, but the fight was both challenging and fierce. From its appearance, I would guess it used to be a type of salamander before it became infected. The rumors of the beast's strength and poisonous bile were indeed true, as it tore down ancient trees and killed my mount with its foul fluid. But in the end I prevailed, I thrust my blade into its head and killed it once and for all. You may announce to the peasants that the menace is now dead.
On another note, the serum that the alchemist gave me did not affect the beast in any way. I did as I was instructed and dipped my blade into the fluid before the battle. But when I sliced open its large growths and plunged my blade into its raw flesh, the fluid did not harm it. Please inform the alchemist that it did not work. Once again, the cure for this disease has escaped us. Perhaps we cannot cure them, but there has to be some kind of medicine that could combat its vile growths.
I hope you receive this letter, for it will be many moons until I can make it back. The loss of my mount is responsible for this, but I should be able to get a new one when I make it back to some village.
