How in the world did you get such a cute picture!?

Your photos are awesome, but I was wondering, do you use photoshop? Because my only problem with this photo, is the horrible grain. There is a program for Photoshop called NeatImage. It's a bit expensive, but it's an awesome program for removing noise/grain.

Otherwise, this is a MOST fantastic piece, just gorgeous, and you captured the beauty of this animal perfectly

Just a note this was taken 6 years ago with a 300D with no flash so yes it's grainy. Also most programs that reduce noise only blur the photo which unfortunately in this image wouldn't go over so well due to the shallow depth of field. Thanks for the feedback though

I understand that, but I was referring to all the recent photos in the gallery. NeatImage doesn't really blur it too much, plus you always have CTRL+SHIFT+F to fade it out a bit too

Wow not only is this a cute creature, well framed and perfectly focussed but it gives no sign of being shot through glass! Beautifully done - whats your trick with the glass?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ewm In reply to ArtlessHmmmm [2009-07-19 15:48:19 +0000 UTC]

For this particular location I like to use a fast prime lens in this case I was using an 85. I wasn't using flash so I didn't have to deal with glare however if you do use flash if you make sure your flash is going off at an angle to the glass it will prevent glare.

Wonderful DOF, it makes the photo seem artificial, but at the same time, the surroundings give it a neutral non-artificial feeling, which makes a great contrast and lovely for the eye to view!

yes the main room is extremly dim and the exhibits are poorly lit so it can be very hard to take pictures there but sometimes I'm lucky thanks for the comment

If I post this 6x, will you believe me? Excellent shot, love that face! Great color! Big plus for avoiding the glass glare, etc. (Where did you find a zoo with clear, un-kid marked glass?) WOW!!!!

^_^ Thanks a lot for the comment. This was taken at the Cincinnati Zoo. The glass there isn't too bad..my major problem with the area they have them in is its inside a building so there isn't too much light so I have to use a fast lens like a 50 mm, 80mm, or sometimes I use my 100 mm macro. Even then I have to shoot at about 800 iso and I have tried to use a flash but no matter the angle I shoot at the flash does horrible things to their eyes o_o I normally shoot at Cinci during the winter(open all year round BIG ++++) so there are hardly any kids there which helps out so much. If you are ever in the area you must go to the Cinci zoo its a wonderful zoo especially in the cat department and also bug department ^_^ They have White lions of Timbavati, an Indo-Chinese Tiger, a White tiger, Cheetahs and sometimes they have cubs , a Puma(not sure if they still have it...there was something wrong with it and its been off display for awhile), Bobcats, Lynxs, Pallas, Sand cats, tons of Ocelots(they breed them o_o two different types the regular and then the braiziian), Geoffroy's Cat, Caracal, and Servals. The big cats have their own outdoor display and all the smaller cats are in the cat house. They also have a insect house and a decent bird sanctuary. ^_^ Mom's (~Tazzy- ) favorite is the Okapi but they aren't out during the winter.
