Description "Bignath" (two jaws)

This predator is an ambush predator that often lays in wait at the bottom of mangroves or other shallow bodies of water much like a crocodilian. The tendrils are allowed to drift in the current completely exposed, the extra long highly sensitive hairs pick up any movement from prey and the pores detect the electrical current. Armed with these "super sensors" the animal has a nearly perfect kill percentage, save for the few exceptionally quick morsels. Needless to say, these predators would take an unsuspecting Gapuri swimmer without hesitation. They would be a satisfying meal for a good week or so.

Hello, can I ask your permission to use this design as practice for a 3D art class? It would be a purely personal work, which would at most be shown in my portfolio as a demonstration of modeling skill, and I would of course credit you and link to the original work.

I love their design, the tail and how it connects to the back flippers.
The texture of the Bignath seems soft and slimy, lke a dolphin.

WOW! Amazing and imaginative, as always!

You and a bunch of other speculative biology artists need to get together and recreate the Jaws movie cover (The swimmer with the huge shark below) with your primary sapient and one of the aquatic predators of that world instead of the human swimmer and the shark below it xD

Darwin-King In reply to exo-bio [2013-02-11 01:56:36 +0000 UTC]

That would be sooooooooo cool. Totally try to get Abiogenesis to do it too, and... hmm... I'm thinking.... Any other speculative artists you know I suppose!

Sorry I'm braindead, all I can think of is you and Abiogenesis when it comes to speculative artists, I'm sure I know at least two more xD

Darwin-King In reply to exo-bio [2013-02-11 20:36:59 +0000 UTC]

Haha, that's what it seems like. We should work together to sniff as many as possible out then make a huge collection of Jaws pictures.

Shall I make a post on Spec Evo calling all artists?

exo-bio In reply to Darwin-King [2013-02-12 02:13:39 +0000 UTC]

I think if it catches on it will, but I don't like trying to convince people to draw something, unless it's like a little contest or something, but it seems like most people have little time for their own art let alone other things xD I know it's that way for me.

Darwin-King In reply to exo-bio [2013-02-12 23:36:11 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, I see what you mean. I'll just have to tell people about the idea and if multiple people are interested, I'll just make a thread they can post it.

That way I'm not convincing them, I'm just trying to spread ideas

I like this design; it's similar to an Earth vertebrate, yet quite distinct too. I like the colour choices, and the morphology of the rear limbs connected to the tail paddle – very cool.

Fantastic! But how would all these six-limbed animals and the new four-limbed gapuri go together? wouldn't it be better if you used the six-limbed bauplan for gapuri too, even though you want to redesign them?
I mean, sometimes I wish I had at least one extra arm and you made the gapuri a quadruped now.
The gapuri are sad now, two less arms! If you really want them to be quadrupedal, you should leave some vestigal traces of them on the body to make the connection with the other species on skatha more obvious.

exo-bio In reply to PeteriDish [2012-08-23 16:01:44 +0000 UTC]

They *DO* still have the second set of arms! xD The sketch is just small and not super detailed, they are there though! I am definitely not getting rid of the second set of arms.

35 feet at the largest. Skatha swamps are not the safest place to go for a dip!
