Description A arthropod inspired sentient, very much still in the tribal and nomadic times of their race's life. I really like these guys, I am still tweaking them but expect to see more of them.

Very well made! But I realized that it sort of looks like my own sapient life form. So I hope you don't get angry if you someway stubble upon my alien and notice the similarities between them.

Link me to your sentient, because I don't know which one it is. Is it the one in your avatar?

If you're talking about the human looking thing, then no. That's a super soldier. The sapient alien is depicted in this doodle: [link]

It's not the best depiction of it, but scanner problems are preventing the better renditions from being seen.

Oh ok, I'm sorry I don't really see a lot of resemblance between my design and yours, other than they have a lot of legs.

It was the centaurism that made me think so. I'll take this as you don't care that there's a superficial resemblance between the two species?

All I meant was that the two didn't look similar to me, I can't see all of your creatures body though, so they may be more alike then I can tell from your picture. I'd like to see more sketches of them!

I am really loving their legs actually. Tell me more of their culture? :3

They are semi aquatic, they have gills as well as lungs, though they prefer the water. Many of their settlements are built underwater or alongside water, most of their structures are round due to the fact that big long streamline bodies don't fit very well in rooms with corners. As I mentioned before they are still tribal, using spear and club like tools, as well as blades. As for the rest I am still working on social structures and the like.

How large are they? What do they build with? What do they eat? How do they have babies?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

exo-bio In reply to Doodlebotbop [2012-06-22 02:07:59 +0000 UTC]

About 8-10 feet long, often times their houses are built out of mud and reed as well as (as gross as it is to us) their own guano, though it's more like mud than anything. Still a little stinky to us though. They are omnivores, they eat crustacean type creatures and mollusk like creatures often, as well as whatever else they can hunt that tastes good. They also eat seaweeds fairly often as they have some of the vitamins their body naturally craves (the way some animals crave to eat dirt for iron or salt). They lay clutches of eggs underwater and someone is with them at all times, guarding them and being sure that there is oxygen circulating through the eggs.

Doodlebotbop In reply to exo-bio [2012-06-22 02:46:35 +0000 UTC]

Do they have a high mortality rate of young? Or are their clutches small? Do they mate for life or for the season?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

exo-bio In reply to Doodlebotbop [2012-06-22 03:12:15 +0000 UTC]

Not a SUPER high mortality rate, but if some eggs die it's no biggy. Their clutches are decent sized.

I am not sure on pairings yet. I was thinking that they actually had "mating groups" where there is a few individuals would sort of switch out to produce different offspring. The offspring would be raised inside the group and then once they came of age they joined another group. Similar to a lion pride actually, now that I'm describing it in any detail, but less violent.

Doodlebotbop In reply to exo-bio [2012-06-22 03:59:17 +0000 UTC]

So not a lot of emotional attachment from one of them to another?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

exo-bio In reply to Doodlebotbop [2012-06-22 04:46:32 +0000 UTC]

No there is, there is strong connections between two or three of them, but mating isn't a big thing to them. It's not like humans, we usually consider sex a really big deal, where as for them it's mainly just making more of themselves. It's not a pleasure source like it is for us.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Doodlebotbop In reply to exo-bio [2012-06-22 07:44:29 +0000 UTC]

What do they find pleasurable? (Not in that way necessarily) Like how do they find joy?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

exo-bio In reply to Doodlebotbop [2012-06-22 14:08:57 +0000 UTC]

Swimming! THEY LOVE TO SWIM. They will chase each other around kelp forests and do flips and whatnot. They can swim by sort of motoring along by flapping plates on the underside of their bodies, but when they want some real speed they will tuck their legs up and retract their head and use their tail like a dolphin's. They enjoy lounging in the sun too on the banks of rivers/seas/lakes/mangroves/etc. Hunting is something they enjoy doing as well, it's necessary for their survival but is also a social event.

And just real quick, going back to your question about the young, when they are eggs there isn't a lot of emotional connection, once they have hatched a bond will form and the children are fiercely protected and cared for.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Doodlebotbop In reply to exo-bio [2012-06-22 16:21:56 +0000 UTC]

Ah that makes sense, if they never really bonded with their young not many would survive. How often are young born? Once a year?

And yay for Swimming! I guess all their games would revolve around swimming?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

exo-bio In reply to Doodlebotbop [2012-06-22 17:31:30 +0000 UTC]

Well they DO bond with them, but only after they've hatched.

Many of them do! But they have probably invented others that are not as swimming centered.

What would their reaction to a human be? How large are they?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

exo-bio In reply to Doodlebotbop [2012-06-23 03:56:35 +0000 UTC]

8 - 10 feet long, about 4.5 - 5 foot high. And i have NO idea how they would react to humans. They'd be initially cautious but would probably become more curious than anything since they are bigger and faster than us (assuming we don't have guns we are going to shoot them with),.
