Well, that game has the same problem as Dark Souls-like type of games: It s difficult and requires you to be observant and patient! So it s not for everyone! It s "learn the patterns". As mentioned earlier, it s technically bossfight after bossfight and some of the late game monsters sure know how to pack a punch! - Nargacuga for example, one of my favourite monsters from the game, has quite a learning-curve!

funny , that sounds almost like the game we were making !!! without the " boss fight after boss fight portion " of course .

Well, that makes a good bossfight, if you ask me^^! - Observe and learn! - I think, it s a system Nintendo introduced in their platform-games (you know: The "3 hits to beat boss after he went through a special pattern of attacks"-type of thing). This system got evolved further into more complex styles over the years I guess. As for Monster Hunter: The monsters have distinct patterns and attacks that make them unique and you have to learn for each one to battle them effectively. As for hits required: They have no health-bars or something similar. Your only sign that the beast is getting low on health is when it tries to flee more often and starts to limp. If you want to know a bit more about the animation, you could check out Dan from Extra Credits who made a little animation-analysis-videoseries on youtube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JIhpP⦠( He also did one about Shadow of the Colossus, by the way)

good point . learning about your enemies and determining their attack pattern is an important aspect of any real fight that's supposed to last more than 10 seconds .Β butΒ the thing about our bossfights was , you couldn't defeat them with sheer force . you HAD to use the environment to your advantage . either the environment was to your advantage ( in which case , lucky you ) or you had to find another environment . this made the game hard as fuck , at least until you became the dark master . it got much easier from thereon !!!
also , fuck me that game's gorgeous !!!

Yop! - That s what makes the game so interesting! - This also sounds liek a real cool concept! Adds lots of depth in terms of strategy!
Oh yeah ! - Su has the game for the Wii, I got the remake for the WiiU - You wouldn t believe how much better the game looks on WiiU XDΒ

Reminds me of a little developement-experiment the guys at Crytek did: For the game Crisis they decided to spice up the AI a bit... in the end, the AI of the enemies made them mvoe strategically, clump, surround and hunt down the player. Surely impressive, but close to impossible to beat for the normal player. Most of them gave up in frustration. They decided to revert the Ai s intelligence then (What made Crisis your generic Shooter)

Haha, I can imagine! My experience with this is as follows: As the developer, you tend to make things too hard for others to understand. A puzzle or like in this case a boss, makes sense to you since you re the one who came up with it in the first place, so you know how to deal with it properly!

Well, that s the modern treatment of brand and franchise I guess! But what can I say: Skylanders is stupidly successful! - I don t see that one ending anytime soon! (No, this is actually no Skylanders-rant!). I don t consider them Spyro-games, just a game featuring Spyro, so I don t see why Activision isn t handing out the license. Just look at Games Workshop with their Warhammer-license: They give that shit to everyone! Sure, we re getting tons of garbage that way, but also some great ones! - "Vermintide" comes to mind there. I would like to see Activision take the middle ground: Hand out the license to other developers, but not in such an insane manner as Games Workshop does. As far as I can tell, demands for a new real Spyro-game are actually quite high. Oh wow, listen to me blabbleing again XD !

I would really like to see something like this happening. It really saddened me to see the Spyro franchise dying after TLOS. I bet there's still space for other games, maybe something even more epic than all the others Spyro games.
I think this series has a lot of potential, but I don't see anyone developing it properly.
