Description
So, after a long break I m finally back to the comic, now with a new art-design. I ve changed Malefor s colors a bit - I guess, the past design was to much of an Spyro-recolor, so I ve darkened the colors and changed the head-shape slightly. Also, new background-style. What do you think? Looks better than the old pages?Page 5: [link]

you're right !!!! i just checked cynder and her spine looks like it's broken . and i think in the golem scene where ignitus is giving the instructions , their butts are hanging !!!!! but malefor also has that kind of wing !!! so i guess the developers lack information on dragon anatomy !!!!!
i liked her shadow too but it dealt so little damage that frustrated me ( i've always been for the heavy attacks , even if they're slow ) !!!! i'm an ice dragon in Dotd but an earth dragon in TEN and sadly i could never find ANB ( but you mentioned your world famous and feared earth tornado !!! )
maybe it does grow from her body !!!! if she has a steel tail , maybe she has other steel parts too !!!!

Hm, now that I think back, they did, when they were not moving. - Other thing would be the lift/upswing. I think, they did those anatomy on purpose, to stay at least partly close to the original Spyro-style (well, didn t matter: "fans" always hated the design-change!).
For me, it was:
enter the dragonfly: Fire
hero s tail: ice
ANB: Earth
TEN: ice/electric - earth was awesome, too, but the energy!!!
DOTD: Spyro Ice Cynder Shadow/fear
Haha, that s my conclusion! Weird, but kind of awesome!

BigMaleforFan In reply to ExplodedPineapple [2013-01-12 19:52:37 +0000 UTC]
yeah !!!!! but the most awesome and weird scene was during the first part of malefor's fight , he doesn't flap his wings !!! just opens them up and floats in the air !!!!!! unlike others who fall if they don't flap .
fans are mostly conservatives , reviewers want new stuff !!!!!! who is to say who is right ?
π: 0 β©: 1
ExplodedPineapple In reply to BigMaleforFan [2013-01-13 10:14:35 +0000 UTC]
Well, to cool to flap I guess! Screw gravity, this looks more badass^^!
Totally agreed! Hm, I thought the legend-concept was a good idea! But there were some points, that could have been made better: For example, make it more open-world like, like in Okami, with side-quests and stuff with the dragon temple being some sort of "operating base"

BigMaleforFan In reply to ExplodedPineapple [2013-01-13 10:35:27 +0000 UTC]
screw anything that gets in the way of his awesomeness !!!!!!
if dotd was like okami , i would have been in heaven !!!!! or like shadow of the colossus !!!!!! you just get to somewhere you need to be and then big bad guy jumps out of nowhere !!! but they had the policy of " one game per year " so they couldn't have done much better , sadly .
π: 0 β©: 1
ExplodedPineapple In reply to BigMaleforFan [2013-01-13 10:47:41 +0000 UTC]
Woah, it would have burst in awsomeness! But yeah, the time-pressure was, of course, intense. They should have given them at least 2 years - In TEN for example, you will find lots of familiar shapes: The trees in the temple/swamp at night level had been from ANB, same goes for the statues, pillars, roots...
that would be just to awesome! A huge world to explore, big bosses, everyone with a special and unique strategy. And now imagine playing that thing as Malefor! Well, I know what I would do if I were a game-developer!

from what i've heard , the graphics were the same , so they just needed a plot and some voice acting . well you just might get a game with malefor in the future !!!!!!!!

hm, Spyro s moves were different, but graphics were pretty much the same. That would be so awesome! Maybe, I ll learn how to do action-script (working with Flash from time to time), so maybe I ll be able to do a short Flash-game one day!

actually some friends and i are working on that ( it will be done in unity3d so guess the graphics !! ) . we just need a plot to go with !!!!!!!!! maybe we'll create it by the next year !!!!

wow, that sounds mega-awesome! Clearly, this is much better than a simple flash-game!

if it's done it will be better !!! but the project is too large !!!!!! the graphics , the levels ( there will be some levels entirely in convexity !!!!!! i loved that level , or what i know of it ) , but the worst part is voice acting !!!! i don't know anyone who speaks good enough english without an accent ( don't want to offend anyone in the game ) . voices are our main challenge !!!!!! but whenever it's done i'll give you the game ( 100 euros in advance !!!!! )

You have the professional version or the freeware?
Yay, Convexity! Floating Jellyfish and stuff! Oh yeah, voices, well, I would offer my help, but I also have that German, mouth full of watermelons but still trying to talk - accent! - Or a russian-sounding one, whenever I try to not sound German XD ! Yay, totally worth it ! But you guys still struggle with the story-plot? So it s put on hold?
π: 0 β©: 1
BigMaleforFan In reply to ExplodedPineapple [2013-01-13 11:54:53 +0000 UTC]
professional version !!!!!!!!! ( one reason for me to love my country and my computer man !!!!!! there's no copyright *yet* and he loves torrents . sooooooooo !!!!!!!!!!!!! ) .
and just so you know , it will be done in okami/shadow of the colossus style !!!!! and it will have a lot of ( and i mean A LOT OF !!! ) cutscenes so we don't have to add too many levels and also to tell a good story .
you could help ( anyone can help !!! ) . but i don't want someone to say stuff like " look the dragon with the german accent is a bad guy , the developers were racists " ( i'm one of the people who say that about other movies myself ) .
come on !!!!!! for YOU , free of charge !!!!!!
well since i'm the one who came up with the idea of the game , and since i don't have my personal plot on how he turned evil the main plot is still waiting . but most of the level and character designs are done ( we've made avalar , warfang , well of souls , convexity , a scorching desert level we called soo zan , and an ancient tomb/labyrinth level called tomb of shekanj ) as well as the animations ( moves and attacks ) and soundtrack ( epic if you ask me !!! ).
but i'm still open to suggestions !!!! we only don't know how to put the whole thing together !!!

Yo-ho, yo-ho a pirateΒ΄s life it is for me! Sounds like you are already pretty far!
hm... Okami/shadow of the colossus!
Yeah, I got your point! The good old evil German super-scientists, the heroic american, the always drunk russian guy, the italian mafia-dude. Ah, stereotypes!
I really would like to help out!
π: 0 β©: 1
BigMaleforFan In reply to ExplodedPineapple [2013-01-13 12:28:38 +0000 UTC]
well not that far really !!!!!!! still nothing compared to all the programming and debugging !!!
it leans towards shadow of the colossus ( how many creatures were there in convexity ? how many do you expect to find in a desert or a long forgotten tomb ? ) for most of the game but leans towards okami in levels like avalar and warfang . we haven't decided about well of souls yet .
yes the stereotypes !!!!! they make me go MAD !!! but here mali will have american accent !!! not because we want it to be an insult , but because every single person i know uses american accent not british or irish . and since their voices will have to be merged for the last few levels of the game to make his voice like the original one ........ well you get my point !!!
ok , how can you help ?
π: 0 β©: 1
ExplodedPineapple In reply to BigMaleforFan [2013-01-13 12:39:44 +0000 UTC]
Hm, in Convexity, there were only Cynder to fight. And a few of the Jellyfish-thingies you could use as platforms to go up. Deserts: Not to many I guess. Should be some special kind of enemys there - you ve heard of sand-vipers (don t know their real english name!)? They dig into the sand, are nearly invisible and get out when they see something close. Tombs are always good for undead enemys, but how many is the question! - So it would really be more like SOTC - no or a few enemys on the way, but ends in a big boom!
Yep, totally understand your point! - I guess, mostly because they re using american voice-actors mainly!
Hm, depends what kind of help you need^^! Since I live quite some distance away, I can t help out directly.
π: 0 β©: 1
BigMaleforFan In reply to ExplodedPineapple [2013-01-13 12:58:34 +0000 UTC]
oh there are enemies in every level of course !!!!! but you wouldn't expect some zombie to just walk around in warfang unseen and unharmed would you ? deserts have their special enemies , vultures ( scurvy wing ? ) , serpents , maybe banshees , insects , etc. the tomb level was designed to be a hard one !!! with enemies crawling outdoors ( zombies will be a good choice for this level don't you think ? ) and riddles and death traps and ( fewer ) enemies inside ( souls and other unholy creatures !!! ) and a nice surprise at the end at the level !!! in those levels it will be more like SOTC ( thanks for the abbreviation !!! ) but in levels like warfang and shattered vale ( if added ) , it should be more like okami ( fewer enemies and more jobs to do ) .
any help at all will be appreciated !!!! there's DA , email and i wish i could afford skype !!! if you're good at programming ( unity uses boo , c# and a special version of javascript called unityscript ) you can help us code the game . if you're good at making animations and 3d in general , you can help with that . if you're good at math , you can help with geometry and algorithms for various attacks ( homing attacks for example ) and if you have a game-suiting plot we could use , we'll all be more than glad to have you with us !!! if you can help in any other way let me know !!!!!
there's just one matter you should consider before helping . this is a large scale game to be done , it might take a few years to finish . if you really want to help , you shouldn't go back on your word .

ExplodedPineapple In reply to BigMaleforFan [2013-01-13 13:28:58 +0000 UTC]
Have you played Rayman 3? It had a pretty cool desert-catacomb level: The enemys down there were invincible and chased you through the level (slow but powerful! Always needed to look out what s behind the next corner!). I love such tomb-levels, since they mostly are a special challenge! What about some soul-enemys, that can move through the walls? And suddenly appear right behind you? - If this isn t a to big pain to program! Zombies are always a good choice for such levels! But what kind of? Undead apes, maybe dragons? (ah... memories of breath of fire III !) - Maybe, I mix something up, but in ancient egypt, the constructors of a pyramid were also buried inside after construction, so they can t tell the secret path, or loot the tomb.
Hm, I ve learned C, but to be serious, I m not good at it! February I will change departments. There, there is a big focus on programming, so I guess, I will get better sooner or later - sure, will need some extra-lessons for C#, but I better promise nothing!
Animating: Well, that s a topic I really like! But I only have Flash and that also needs lots of training. I could only draw storyboards as base for the person that animates.
But I guess, I could help out with a plot.
I think, it was clear, that this wouldn t be a 3-weekends-of-work-project: It seems all very professional, and you also don t seem to be that kind of guy that just does some sloppy work so it s done. and you don t have decided it just yesterday to do that game!
π: 0 β©: 1
BigMaleforFan In reply to ExplodedPineapple [2013-01-13 13:46:02 +0000 UTC]
no but it certainly seems good enough !!!! the tomb levels rule !!! full of mystery and stuff !!!! and there are soul enemies and they can walk through walls , but they won't appear right behind you ( we don't want a level to be too hard or too frustrating ) .
the zombies i have in mind are dragons , but we can't put too many zombies in one screen . each should take quite a few strong hits to die and imagine fighting 50 or so !!!! not to mention that zombies don't stagger that much when hit . so i guess we'll be adding fewer zombie dragons !!!
and maybe that tomb has the same story as egypt pyramids or wall of china !!!!! but it's a secret what that story is !!!!!
we could really use a good idea for a plot !!!! would you mind giving me your ideas ( if yes note them please , in excruciating detail !!! ).
and for the record i've done some sloppy work but only in cases that i had no other choice !!! like my second semester , i found out i had to present my programming project by the next day !!!

ExplodedPineapple In reply to BigMaleforFan [2013-01-13 14:03:20 +0000 UTC]
Hm, it doesn t need to be enemys that suddenly appear from behind. Remember the sunken ship from Okami? There was this lady big on-screen at some points - didn t hurt you or anything, just blocked your view (and with the right timing, scares the shit out of you!). Hm, could use those souls as small enemys, and the undead dragons as some sort of mini-boss, like the big apes or deadwings.
Also, this is the Rayman-level I was talking about: [link] You can skip to 6.14, since that is the part, where they go down. And the breath of fire III Zombie-dragon (PS1-graphics!!!) [link]
Yeah, but give me some time to make up my mind - story needs to be good - and it shouldn t be a complete path to chaos-copy! I will send you my plot ideas, as soon as I ve some!

BigMaleforFan In reply to ExplodedPineapple [2013-01-13 14:24:30 +0000 UTC]
oh like those ? sure could add them !!!! but i'll need approval from my friends .
the undead dragons you mentioned are cool but i'm looking for something like these : [link] or [link] or [link] . something with a little flesh left on the bones ( scarier than plain skeleton ).
souls could be small enemies , zombie and skeleton dragons will be the main enemy for that level ( told you it was a hard level ) !!!! we'll need to make sure the player is strong enough by that particular level or we'll get plenty of angry emails !!!
sure take your time !!! we need a strong complete plot not some shallow story anyone can come up with !!! remember it must have action and mystery ( romance is not necessary , i think we'll do better without it ) !!! and thanks a bunch in advance !!!

Sure^^! That s the whole team-thing! I think such creatures could add some variety to the gameplay, but the focus is still the fight. I had fun getting chased by those guys. There is also room for some puzzles: At some parts, you need them to make them chase you so you can lure them over a switch you couldn t activate.
Sure, this ones look much scarier than the BOF-Zombie.
- Haha, would be better, we don t want that to happen!
Also, what time should it take place? From Malefor s very beginning, or switch to teen-years. Also, should he get his elements one at a time, or all from the beginning?
π: 0 β©: 1
BigMaleforFan In reply to ExplodedPineapple [2013-01-13 16:17:07 +0000 UTC]
it's not a bad idea actually , seeing as how mali turned apes into some skeleton ghoul thingies !!!!! he should have picked it up from someone !!!!
puzzles ? don't worry !!! plenty of them for everybody !!! our goal is god of war after all !!!!! and it took three games to understand what his plans were ( complicated folks should be oblivious to the simple side of life ) so there have to be complicated schemes and some serious strategy involved !!!
the story begins with malefor's birth and some cutscenes will explain his childhood but the game starts from when he's 12 or so ( his first elemental lesson ) . he'll begin with fire , then ice then wind , thunder and earth and when we reach the last 3 levels convexity .

Badaboom! That s something I can work with! I will try to think of a good plot! Sadly can t tell you, when I m finished, but some thoughts are already forming in my mind!
What system are you developing it for? Since I ve seen, that unity also supports PS3, XBOX360 and even mobile devices. And another nice to know-thing would be: How many people are working on the project?

thanks !!!!!!! it's not a lie to say if you're saving us a year !!!!!!!!! ok , whenever you're finished let me know .
we're developing for windows , maybe linux and mac will follow . we may discuss developing for ps3 and xbox360 too but since none of us have any real programming experience in coding for those ......
well it's a project that's sole purpose is to have fun and learn something !!!! the developers are me and 4 of my friends , but for voice acting and other stuff , there will be others .

Hm, maybe, there are some people in forums or chats that know what needs to be done to bring it on PS3/xbox360! But sure: First things first! - But I can let you know if I find a good tutorial or useful info on that point. That project really caught my attention! (damn it! Want to play that tomb-level now!)
So, a pretty small team - wasn t really unexpected - I would have guessed something around 10 people.

I like the level-design! (well, tomb-explorer by heart!) - I hope, I don t make you guys to much trouble with my ideas! - but should you need more ideas for the gameplay, let me know. I m more the creative head, not the hardcore-coder or mathematics-genius.
I guess, that was pretty clear^^! I mean, for a project like that, that isn t paid and just for fun, needs passion to be done! - And well, apple also started with two guys in a garage!

it has to be done by passion . and how !!!!!!!

well , there's another girl in america too !!!!!! but technically it's the same thing !!!!!
π: 0 β©: 1
ExplodedPineapple In reply to BigMaleforFan [2013-01-14 15:42:56 +0000 UTC]
I ll hope so too! There are basic shematics in storywritimg: Evangelion for example gives the watcher not many informations ("Hm, I wonder..." "what?" "aw, never mind!" - screw you! It s not like I wanted to know it!), so it s all very mysterious. You can also get that intensity by a sudden change in the plot, that s what you will find in Fallout 3 after your visit in Vault 112 (wont say more, since that would completly spoil the story for you!)
π: 0 β©: 1
BigMaleforFan In reply to ExplodedPineapple [2013-01-14 16:02:23 +0000 UTC]
well giving the audience no information is a weakness imo , i think you should tell them everything they need to know with subtle hints and in the end put them together ( poirot for instance ) . sudden change in plot ? what do you mean by that ? you mean like when you think you're hunting while you're on a treasure hunt unknowingly ? or for example you have a change of heart and change sides ? ( don't say one more word !!!!! i hate spoilers !!! i love to figure things out on my own )
π: 0 β©: 1
ExplodedPineapple In reply to BigMaleforFan [2013-01-14 16:15:45 +0000 UTC]
for example, when everything is going well, according to plan, and suddenly everything changes in one moment to the other! Well, to the treasure-hunt example: Like when you are treasure-hunting and suddenly something happens that makes the whole task more complicated! Don t know, like, your crew gets lost, you are trapped somewhere, such kind of things. - well those stories mostly end up in psychic stress now that I think of it. Have you watched "127 hours"? That s a good example for that kind of stress. As you know, I climb a lot and also read lots of stories from famous climbers about their adventures. Last thing I ve read was about the "Unterkircher-mission" at Nanga Parbat. It ended up with one of the three climbers falling down a glacierrift that was covered by snow and the two others don t know, what to do.

BigMaleforFan In reply to ExplodedPineapple [2013-01-14 16:25:42 +0000 UTC]
the treasure hunt example you gave reminded me of uncharted !!!! an excellent way for a game to get more complicated . and then the treasure hunt suddenly changes into a rescue mission !!! and there's no telling what can happen next !!!!! adds suspense , lots of stuff to do and you can get a complicated story from nothingness !!!
