Description
I'm starting to enjoy playing with Apophysis again, although I still really have no idea what I'm doing with it.Yesterday, *Aeires gave me some wonderful tips on getting the best of out Apophysis, so I sat down last night and started fiddling about. This is the result. I still find the whole program very confusing, because one's actions do stuff that - to my mind - doesn't make any sense at all. So the fact I can get anything out of it at all is basically just a case of a luck accident more than real skill.
Plus I've decided that fractals look totally better on a white background for some reason
Rendering information:
Rendering Quality: 1,000
Filter Radius:: 0.4
Oversample: 2
Render time: 00:12:3.14
(*Aeires : I tried it with a filter radius of 0.4 and an oversampling of 0.1, but it came out looking too jagged to me, so I upped the figures and rerendered it

almost looks like there's a planet in the middle with firey clouds.
LOVE the rings along the outside and behind the parabola shaped flame.

I kept thinking it was a seahorse myself
But thanks! I kept looking at some of the fractals in your gallery for inspiration and I was chuffed when I got the same sorts of rings. Of course, I have NO idea how I managed to do it, but you get that

what rings are you referring to?

Hmmm, I'm not sure now actually. I guess I was aiming for an effect like the one you have here [link]

oh with the fractal in the actual frame?

Nah, the rings in the dev. The fractal in the frame I did in Fanned Elegance

Looks great. White backgrounds are tricky, but looks like you are getting great results with them. Nice hyperbolic mixture you have going on here, and the colors work great, especially the little firey ball in the center.
Each file is different, so sometimes you have to play around with the render settings. Looks like making slight changes worked well on this because it's a great looking clean render.

I hear people say that white backgrounds are tricky, but I'm not convinced: I don't find them any harder than a black backgrounded one. I think you have to be more conscious of your gradient colour choices. By default, a lot fo Apo gradients have grey or black in them, which blends nicely into a black background, but looks crappy against a white one. If instead you pick a gradient that has fairly vivid colours (something I prefer to do anyway ) and elminate as much black as you can, then there shouldn't be many problems with it.
Thanks for the feedback, Jeff; I really appreciate it! I might not yet be able to come up with stuff that's as cool as some of *trinity-77 's work ([link] [link] or perhaps my favourite of her white fractals [link] ), but I think I'm at least heading in the right direction.
I think I might have to interrogate ask Shannon what her secrets are...

Yeah, the two biggest things to overcome with white bg's are finding a color that works, and grainyness. A lot of the fire colors I use would never work on a white bg, so it forces you to approach things differently. I think they look much better though because they have a brighter, and cleaner look to them. I probably should work more with them myself.

Haha, okay, I'll try it, but I have a couple to render on black first.
