Description
This is the seventeenth image in my Back Where I Belong series.November 11 is Rememberance Day here in Australia, where, at 11am, the country stops for a minute's silence to remember those who died in World War 1. In terms of the number of men killed per capita, Australia lost more soldiers than any other country in the Great War.
86 years on, commemorations like Rememberance Day are becoming more and more popular. Younger people are remembering the sacrifices that so many made nearly a century ago, ensuring that their legacy will live on into the future.
This is the senotaph outside the front of the Australian War Memorial. The wreaths around it were laid there several days ago as part of the national commemoration.

beautiful shot. i love how the gifts of rememberence glow against the sign while in the back the glow of the fallen sun transforms the sky to a purple shade. gorgeous!

Thank you, m'dear!
I was lucky to be there at the right time of the day. I thought the shot of the memorial itself was cool enough, the way it was lit, but the light in the sky became an added bonus I hadn't noticed when I was taking the shot.

It's great that people spend the time remembering those who were deserving. We had Veterans Day and I know the UK had Rememberance Day. I wish people here would do a moment of silence.

There's something quite solemn about hearing all noise in a busy supermarket cease for a minute while everyone remembers. I was quite touched.
