This looks awesome, however, I think it would look better if his mouth was on the left or right side of his face, instead of in the middle.

I experimented with that and that presents a ton of problems when camera angle changes. If the camera shifts from one side to the other it looks weird for a mouth to follow. Right now I have his mouth too large for my taste but I have very few Edges that make it up, so I can make it large and small. If I put it on a side it would be a smirk rather than the whole mouth on one side.

Question is his eyes supposed to look that mean? I mean not to sound rude but I think Sonic should be able to show compassion right?
I'll admit this is a very convincing model in general but why is he holding two rings? He normally needs one for speed, at least going for the SATAM style, then there's other versions.
I will also state that I love how your making the feet look in this image its really epic, are you perhaps going with the Sonic the Comic version?

I have zero controls over the eyes, I have yet to create that. But the geometry is created that it shouldn't be too hard to create the proper expressions.
Why not two rings? I use Satam as my inspiration but I'm not copying it word for word or frame for frame.
I will borrow elements from Sonic the Comic as well. Its an opportunity to use what works or looks good and throw away what doesn't.

I see, now I understand, I mainly griped about how his facial expression, especially the pupil looked too mean to be a normal Sonic but I understand now, especially after reading a few of your comments.
The only reason I complain about two rings is that he's powerful enough for one to be used at a time using two would be a waste of power wouldn't it? Especially since normally their hard to find right?
Unless you were doing this for a cooler image.

The answer is to make it cooler. I always had an image like that in my mind. Maybe that would happen in the animation one day. If the situation called for it, its an interesting concept.

Facebook destroys the quality of pictures with their compression. So I always upload to deviant art but I only upload when something is completed. Facebook I use for updates.

So I'm looking at my Sally model and I was wondering how to manage the breasts. Originally I was going to create fur over her so it wouldn't show much shape, but now that I'm changing it to a texture and using the basic shape more it seems a bit big. Or do you think its fine? I'm asking you because your a sally fan, I don't want peoples eyes to stay on her chest. I should make this a post on facebook.

People can not complain about the "naked"-thing then and she still looks really sexy.

I like when shes dressed up. But for the tone and attitude of the series I will not be dressing characters up too much. Simple bits of clothing are enough for me. I want to keep the characters very much in touch with their animal side, if that makes sense.

I think the one thing, if anything, that puts me off of realistic sonic characters in general, its the whole, separated eyes thing. I think the line gets drawn when you separate them. Its all in the eyes for me. Like how Sonic Boom (tv series)'s version of Tails, he stands out as different to me, simply because you can see a bit of yellow underneath his eyes, rather than them touching his muzzle. That tiny detail makes so much of a difference to me!
Still, enough rant. your work is amazing, your one of my inspirations when I think of fan-works. Mo main inspiration in animation is the Michael bay Transformer films, not the best plot, but dear god can ILM animate!

As for the eyes, I feel the Cyclops looking Sonic is creepy and doesn't match the other characters in his world. It really needed to be updated long ago, I never understood two eyeballs touching one another.

She showed me that Sonic could work with normal eyes. All of my concept art had two separate eyes, still has cartoon proportions but its a bit more realistic than distracting. Its tricky finding the proper balance. I wonder why people call it the realistic Sonic, Its in cartoon proportions, it has bright colors. I wonder if its because I'm using realistic lighting for rendering. Or maybe its the fur, its different than the Sonic Fan Film.
Well, thanks for the support I will keep up the work, I actually have a laundry list of things that I have to do to Sonic to complete this character. For the most part most Sonic fans are ok with it, when I do get complaints they are more about how they want the old Sonic look, but remaking something that has been done to death is not something I want to do.

I think its the simple fact that you've got fur on him to begin with, and not a texture.
You throw fur on him, and he become alot more realistic looking. He may still be a long jump from a real animal, but the fur really does make the difference. If he had a flat texture in this image, and not fur, He'd probably be something I'd expect in a 3rd party made Sonic game.
Also, just curious, but do you use Renderman?

No I use Arnold. Arnold is automatically gamma corrected and used for photorealistic Rendering. Renderman is going to be made to use for free soon, I'm not sure if I will like it more than Arnold but I will give it shot.

I signed up for renderman about 12 months ago. I havn't done a lot of animation work in a while, but I have intentions of going back to do some commission work for a youtuber. Given I'm relying on maya defaults all the time, It'll be nice to have something new.
