Description Decided to do a tutorial, using a Tengu as the basis for this new pendant.

I hope you all enjoy and that you can figure out what I'm trying to say here. I do, in fact, own sculpting tools, but I lost them somewhere in my house, and rather than dig them out for no reason, I made do with what I had. This goes to show that you don't need to shell out for fancy tools just to make something cool. You just need similar stuff.

But you don't have to make a tengu. This is the same method I used for both of these: [link] [link]

^__^ I like it. And I don't expect anyone's to be just like mine. That's what makes it fun!

I'm relieved I'm not the only one who uses the highly useful learning aid of color-coded words when trying to explain something off of photos. You rock!

Thank you! Yes, I like knowing what I'm getting into, and having to scroll back and forth to reference "WTF is that again?" is rather annoying.

Not to make an Oni/Tengu, but I definitely save this as a basic help on sculpting faces Very nice, thank you!

Well, hey, that's the good thing about Oni/Tengu. They're so exaggerated, that making normal faces is simple as toning down what you make. Cheers!

Yay! Thank you. Yeah, I didn't want to pretend that everyone would have all the nice, sparkly tools you find in a craft store. Also, some of those are meant for silt-based/mud clays, which you can "carve out." Sculpey reacts so differently, I think it's easier to build up.

Definitely. I haven't worked with their new firm product, but otherwise additive seems much easier. Less frustrating anyways.

Yes, especially since Sculpey has the advantage of just adding a little body warmth to rework it. Silt based dries, cracks and crumbles, and it's harder to go back and add or subtract without potential for destroying it.

Me too! I've never really made a tutorial before, so I'm hoping it is easy to understand!

Ouch I meant I hope it comes out good. I have no idea why i wrote "okay good" lol.

The tutorial looks easy to understand, I haven't tried it yet but I think for me it would just be trying to shape everything when adding clay to the face. Like the teeth and making it all seem so smooth ._.

EzraShadowstorm In reply to RawrxPanda [2010-01-08 06:26:31 +0000 UTC]

That's why you get a flat little thing to smooth it out. Trust me, it's all trial and error. X3

RawrxPanda In reply to EzraShadowstorm [2010-01-08 06:30:29 +0000 UTC]

True true Usually i try to smooth it out with my finger but that might be too big xD Practice is the key to most things =]

If you use a metal tools, hold them in your hands to warm them before you apply them to the clay.

^^ Your skills are so amazing. I look forward to seeing both of the sword piece and the tengu completely done!

<.< Knowing me..I'd give up right when starting but will keep the tutorial just in case.

Hey, you never know. Much of the time, I just improv.

The good thing about clay is that if you add too much, you can remove it and do it again!
