This was a pretty airframe, thought I like the Malcolm hood installations on these a bit better.

This is a true testament to how bloody good Gentile really was.. he could make this B do what D's could do and hold his own against anyone in the air.. It sorta remeinds me on a photographer n model.. they HAVE to be a team. if one isnt up to a shoot the other looks bad. but even though it is not the "best" Mustang by stats and such it ranks right up there with Scotts P-40, Richthofen's DR.1 n Boyington's Corsair

( yes I am sorta anal about WW Ii fighters n pilots)
Maybe some day I'll sit and work out a 20 plane "Fantasy" squadron. If I do those 6 WILL be on the list.

Don't forget Richard I. Bong's P-38.Β After all, he's the number one American ace of all time.

Terrific shot of Shagri-la! I have the old Revell 1/32 version of this bird, and an unbuilt Tamiya 1/48 version. this is my favorite scheme for the P-51B!

Yeah, it really is rare-- 99 percent of the time at airshows I see P-51Ds rather than P-51Bs.

Very nice shot. I had a question about the three bladed bird. I see it has already been explained.

Weren't they later.. A36 Apache? Used for Ground Attacks? Or is this after the Merlin Engine? Sorry, some reason I missed it.. Mustang 4 bladed prop with Merlin engine. 3 bladed prop was the Allison and used in the A36..
Sorry Chief.

No. The A-36 was a different aircraft w/ an Allison engine. This was a Merlin powered P-51B.

I have only ever seen 2 high back Mustangs. I have seen P-51C "Princess Elizebeth" and an Allison engined A-36 Apache. They are rare enough now but back then they must have been super rare. Great shot and thanks for sharing
