Description

C-140A-LM, 59-5958 assigned to the 1467th Facilities Checking Squadron, based at Scott AFB seen at Luke AFB in April 1990.

I have always liked the Lockheed Jetstar!  It even looks nice in 'Euro-1' warpaint!

The C-140As were painted in camo since they would go into a conflict area (as in Vietnam) and check the reliability of the USAF bases Nav Aids. This mission went to the C-29A for a short time f16crewchief.deviantart.com/ar… before the acft were transferred to the FAA.

Doesn't look good in the Euro-1 paint imo.

It was interesting though!  The C-140s were originally in an attractive red and white scheme when they were operated by AFCS farm8.staticflickr.com/7219/73… and during the Vietnam war they were painted in the SEA scheme usafflightcheck.com/wp-content… . Euro-1 was their last scheme in service.  I shot a VC-140B in the 'Boneyard' f16crewchief.deviantart.com/ar… in the early 1980s.

Nice shot. Roden just issued a 1/144 scale (airliner scale) kit of the Jetstar in military colors. I believe the scheme is the Euro-1.

Cool!  I liked the Jetstar, even the twin engine prototypes!

The kit has the twin engines.

The kit has options for a two engine or a four engine version?  That is unusual!

Four engines only. It's the early C-140A with the four engines. They may have a turbofan version in the works. Wouldn't be too hard to do. Here's the link to the review on CyberModeler: www.cybermodeler.com/hobby/kit…

www.museumofflight.org/files/i… and  farm8.staticflickr.com/7273/70… are pics of the original RR Orpheus engines and no slipper tanks.

According to what I've read, the early turbojets weren't that powerful or that fuel efficient, hence the extra fuel tanks. The later turbofans were more fuel efficient and powerful so they didn't need the extra weight and drag of the extra tanks. The photos you linked to are how I remember the Jetstar. Two engines and no slipper tanks.

I do like the looks of the Jetstar II w/ the Garrets TFE73s and the remodeled tanks...
