Description
A former 51 TFW F-4E pulls in behind the tanker for a photo shoot. During the non refueling portion of the flight, I was able to talk to the pilots and ask them to move into position to photograph.Note the open AR receptacle on the top of the F-4. The pilot's refuesed to close them in case they were unable to open them again. They were not taking any chances!

Was told the Luftwaffe landed w. the receptacle open in order to avoid the rear dump purge on landing so it wouldn't soak the chute w. fuel.

That is a possibility. I know when we were dragging these jets back to the US, they would not retract the receptacle in case it would not deploy again

Hmm, never thought about that. Not good if that sucker didn't open while over the middle of the Atlantic.
