from the summer of 2015: after gnawing away at an overly ripe nectarine for the better part of five minutes, I realized two things:1.) my hands and forearms were drenched in juice
2.) the pit was quite beautiful

When I first looked at this, I'll be honest, I didn't see the fruit at all. I could see the title much better, feeling like I was looking at a distressed shadow of a figure being enveloped in a mix of red and white- two colors that can mean a lot of things in the emotional spectrum. Red can often involve anger and frustration- something often present with self-pity. The white could be comfort, to me- they're trying to calm themselves and find peace. But...when I read your description, I could see the pit. The pit of a fruit that was eaten away. It's rather intriguing, in a way...And reminds me of a project I had to do when I was in a writing camp: Spend two minutes peeling and orange (we had to make sure it lasted two minutes, the peeling...That was hard). Then, we had to write a poem...About the orange and peeling it, the way it felt in our hands and the way it sounded and looked. This feels very similar in a way, only in an image that can speak volumes of various kinds of topics!
