oops so this one is a little out of order in terms of my archives updates. this was really the drawing that started it all : my transition into line art.I started getting into pointillism and shading via stippling during my senior year high school, when I was suffering from an undiagnosed autoimmune disease. the repetitive motion of dot after dot, which could become almost mind-numbing after a few hours, was one of the ways I dealt with the pain, and while I still love the photo-realist drawings that that style produces, it often meant that I would spend ~40 hours on every portrait I took on.
last summer - right before heading up to the farmhouse in rural Vermont - I got a sketchbook, that I wanted to dedicate to real sketches. you know, 20 minutes doodles or quick still life drawings, which for me was definitely going to be a challenge. I decided to kick it off with a self portrait of sorts, and somehow an outburst of pure line work happened, and I've been experimenting with that style ever since.
