Description
I suddenly felt like doing some 3D Pokémon artwork, so I looked through my folder of all 386 options and made a list of the easier ones to do. I ended up choosing Vibrava. He's more complicated (from a 3D perspective) than most on the list, but I just think he's cool. Normally I ignore such urges, as I'm usually too busy to go doing random artwork whenever. As a result, I think my art has suffered greatly, so this time I grabbed the inclination and ran with it.The Vibrava itself took about 3 hours. Not bad for a 3D Pokémon of that complexity level. The Breloom I did last August took about 6 hours. So anyway, I finished it at 2:00 AM and headed to bed. The following afternoon I set about the task of creating the setting for the picture. The desert was the obvious choice for this Pokémon. A bright, sandy, barren landscape would work well... But as I began to work it, I took on the mindset of a photographer, trying to capture the perfect shot! Haha, honestly, I started to imagine myself as a Pokémon photographer out in the hot desert, holding my camera. Where would be a good place to wait for a shot? I added the water puddle-- in a dry desert, a Pokémon was sure to come! Boulders fell into their proper place and cliffs materialized in the distance. Then came a Vibrava, stepping gently into the water with its front legs for a nice, refreshing sip. Bright daylight? Heavens no, how boring! The Vibrava didn't come around until the cool of the evening as a beautiful sunset backdrop and lighting added the perfect touches.
Hehe, as you can tell, I really had fun making this picture. It had been 2 months since my last piece of Poké art, and 5 months since my last 3D Poké art. The scene took about 3 hours to make, and added effects and touch up in photoshop was about a half hour, so 6 1/2 hours total. Not bad!
DA doesn't have a fan art category under 3D, so I hope this is a good place for it. I ended up feeling that the mood and atmosphere of time and place was more important to this piece than the intentional subject. ^_^

Wow, that photographer's mindset payed off. The shot was very natural(which I'm sure you were going for) and the Vibrava turned out nicely. The shading on the body is missing in certain portions, such as for the wings, but considering it was a spur-of-the-moment kinda piece, that is understandable. Props on choosing a tough Pokemon for the shot. b^-^d <- thumbs-up

Sorry for the delayed answer, I use Corel Dream 3D, though there are better 3D programs for free on the web these days. XP

Late reply coming through! XP
I'm very glad you like it so much, the setting was really fun, and kind of ended up being the point more than Vibrava itself. Hehe

DO YOU?
DO YOU REALLY?
XD
The wings, hmm... You know, mine are actually a little thicker than the ones in Colosseum, but that doesn't mean they're right. How much thicker would you say they should be?

Now I have to wonder what sort of comment you'd have left if I'd done Flygon instead of Vibrava... XP

This is really god. i like the reflection as well as the pokemon itself.
As I read your description I thought back on the days when Ash and company tagged along with Todd (I think) the photpgrapher, who always had to get the perfect shot. This one I believe he'd would take as his own (if it were possible). Again really nice art.
Minor note: Four pokemon have already been confirmed for Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, so the total is up to 390... [link] Has really good info if you're interested.

Oh! How right you are! Haha, Serebii.net is my first online stop every morning when I get up. So yeah, just because my folder of official Pokémon art is named "386official" doesn't mean there weren't more to choose from. However... *counts* ...I believe there are actually 5 new ones announced already.
Anyway, thanks for your comment, I'm glad you like it!

Wow, it's absolutely stunning and creative. ^_^ Vibrava evolves into one of the coolest Pokémon ever, so of course that adds 10 cool points on its own. XD Wow, I'm glad you didn't ditch this for something else like I do.. I start something good and I never finish it. Heh... wow. I like the Vibrava's reflection, too! Ooh yes, what a marvelous picture this is.. @.@

Heh, yeah, Flygon is my second fav of the R/S/E set. I actually like that whole evolution line, which is unusual for me on a threesome.
The reflection certainly adds a nice touch, I think.

Yeah, I don't think I've ever personally seen a Vibrava fan art, at least that I can recall anyway... Maybe I have. *shrugs* In any case it's always fun to draw the underappreciated ones.
