Description Here is the second illustration I did for the now-not-happening-in-it's-planned-format second Satellite Soda art book.
The title does not really relate to the image, or at least it shouldn't be taken very literally. I didn't create the character of the Badfunk, so I'm not the one who invents his origin story. I really just thought this would be a cool looking picture, and it COULD work as a background story (although it's not). Hence the title.
When I did this one (and actually also the previously submitted Deviation), I was on a real anime streak, watching various shows and movies left and right, and I was definitely inspired by some Gainax in the making of this image.

Software: Adobe Photoshop CS.

I love the art style, coupled with the expressive faces on the characters and the interesting setting...

To be frank, this is a beautiful piece of work; shadowing is realistic, the robotic arms in the background handling an curious egg-like object give this picture a story all its own, the team of people on the monitors looking on in wonderment, interest and worry, even the simple things like the asteroids in the distance set this piece head over heels above the rest.

This is DAMN good.
I wonder though how you managed to do all these clear symmetric lines..? (especially the blue thing under her arms)

Congrats though.

I used the ellipse tool as a foundation, and then traced around the edges.

I don't wanna sound fan-girlish, but your work is so admirable... Lurve the blues and greens used.

Your colors are again very impressive, particularly on the mannequin/robot arms and hands.
How did you create those textures on them? They really add vibrancy and emotion. brushstrokes, filter, pre-existing textures existing somewhere?

Congrats again anyway

Textures are a combination of brushes and photographs of rough surfaces, which I overlayed. Thanks dude!

Hell yeah, Gunbusters 2 gave the impulse to the image. That's why one of the stickers in the bottom left corner of the image has the Gunbusters 2 logo on it.
