Description A poseable paper puppet, made with acrylic on bristol paper with thread joints. Created for an under-the-camera animation at school.
I think these would go over well at conventions, like Furfest (which I'll be going to this Nov 2007). I'm rather bored of badges and prefer painting over colored pencils and markers, in many respects. The colors are just so much richer...
On my first try I managed to whip this out relatively quickly. A small sketch of the animal in question, then determining which parts will move and breaking it apart. I think if I reduced the number of pieces and complexity, I could make puppets even faster (and less likely to fall apart), which would make them good pieces for conventions. The only tedium is putting it together since painting it is so much fun.

Shit... I was planning on making something along the lines of this for an AC when my art got good enough. I guess I should post what I have currently since now the place will be swamped with these. I'll see if I can upload my puppet within the next couple of minutes. I didn't use string because it is not durable. And the tacks are just to figure out if I should change the pivot points or not.

I doubt I'm so popular these'll be all the rage. If they do...well...be better than all the copycats I guess? It's a great concept that I love myself, I encourage people to build their own little dollies, at least to see what the experience is like.

Yes, but it's not a technique I invented either (that goes to many under-the-camera animators), so I can't claim ownership, just innovation to market it at a convention.

LadyElfie2000 In reply to FablePaint [2007-10-29 03:32:23 +0000 UTC]

Still it's a good idea as I've never seen anything like that at a convention. You get to be the first person to think of marketing it.

Ah! thats such a good idea, so in animation class do you have a whole troop of these for a animated production? that would be so cool

zack-sr [2007-10-28 09:32:40 +0000 UTC]

This is such a cool idea, well-painted! And because you put some shadows on the image, I feel as if I could move it right there on the screen.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FablePaint In reply to zack-sr [2007-10-28 10:14:15 +0000 UTC]

Ya, the shadow is digital manipulation cuz the scanner wouldn't like it, I found it gave it some life and dimension it didn't have as a straight-up scan.
