Description The BNSF Maintenance Facility in Topeka, Kansas is quite the large place. It sprawls over a portion of downtown Topeka, and the Branner Trafficway viaduct runs right through the middle of it, which is just to the right.

Here, a batch of B23-7s sit on a storage track, awaiting their fate (which ultimately was the deadline, I believe).

In the background to the right, you can see some of the lines where locomotives wait before going into the shop where most of the framework and body work is done. In the background center, the paint shops sit (I think), and in the immediate foreground, temporary storage lines sit adjacent to the Topeka sub mainline, which is at the very bottom of the shot. Going east from here takes you directly through Lawrence, and ultimately to the yard throat of Argentine yard at CP Holliday.

I spy an ex-GE Demonstrator.

Aww, I could SWEAR that looks like GE's old demo paint.

NOW you've got it! Excellent colorizing. This is top-notch compared to your previous stuff. Keep at it!

I have been, and I'll likely be doing it more in the future. It seems to suit my style of approach I think.

I like the new color picking. It shows off the BNSF paint much better with the ugly industrial buildings and highway bridges desaturated.

Thanks. I printed this one out borderless on some glossy paper with the new Canon printer, and oh man did it come out nice.

I think I photographed the FURX engine back there last month.

I like the fact you captured so many different paint jobs of this railroad. It's a history lesson in 1 photo.

Definitely better than any of my Topeka shots, which suck so much I didn't post them... I'm a sucker for bright colors and blue skies, so well done!

Thanks! Next time I go, I'm staking out some new locations to hit up. I know there's a flat yard just on the west side of this complex that barely gets used, and UP has a big flat yard up by the elevators where the transcon comes down. Plus, I'd like to get a shot of the old rotary snow plow that they have here. It's on the north side, and I ran across it last time, but didn't have a chance or a place to get a shot of it.

Good luck. That old rotary got used last winter...

Indeed it did! We had a ton of stuff out here, so much so that I guess someone I know saw UP's out as far east as Salina checking things out.

It made the Trains newswire when the rotary cleared the KP.

I'd recommend you just head up that way the next time a good blizzard hits your area...

I've since redone the toning. I printed it out today, and wow, good stuff I think. Worth framing.
