Description While I managed to get a lot of good shots at the time, only a handful are worthy of submission. This is one.

Here, a BNSF manifest pulled only by lone AC4400CW #5213 heads northbound on the Arkansas City sub. The trestle it just ran under is the westbound portion of the Emporia sub, which is BNSF's transcon. The track in the foreground is the BNSF transcon eastbound main, and is the section seen here pulling off the Emporia sub and merging onto the Ark City sub.

Note the articulated auto racks. There's a pair of AOK's in there, Hoyt.

"I like this train," says my four-year-old. "It has only one engine. Does it mean that the train wasn't too long? Or the load wasn't too heavy?"

I believe those are called AUTO-MAX!

If those are Honda's in there, I think thats a run-through train from the plant in Marysville, Ohio. Hmm. I need to go there some time.

I wouldn't really know. I couldn't tell if they were loaded or not. This was coming from the "southbound" direction...

I saw a couple of these cars last weekend on the UP. I was startled to see new car-carriers when there are so many parked in storage lines.

Well...the old ones are much heavier, and the articulated cars have less pull weight on the draw bars, thus two reasons to move to those when you can't even fill the old ones. Less weight and less pull means less fuel. Same concept as the articulated well cars on the double stacks.

I see... thanks... surprised they are not scrapping the older stuff instead of filling up sidings with it.

Ditto! Especially with scrap metal prices going through the stratosphere. Aluminum, steel, copper, iron, even tin are being priced through the roof with scrap metal and hard materials. It's crazy.

I'm just surprised the major class Is aren't ditching everything they can in the name of revenue and cost-cutting.

I thought I recognized that color of off-white slathered upon those leading auto racks. Now if the AOK would just invest some of its car-hire revenue into its own track, then it could become a valuable interchange point with the KCS at Howe.

That's what I've thought after lookin' some of their stuff up.

But then again, alot of terminal/switching railroads and shortlines would gain to do just that. Rarely do any of them do it though.

Thanks. It's actually a tough spot to shoot from, since there's almost no roads leading up to the mainlines (I was shooting from what amounted to somebody's backyard), and the sun is always in a bad position.
