Description Did you hear?!
We've found a new solar system!
39 light years away, located in constellation Aquarius, there is a red dwarf star acting as a sun to 7 nearly-earth sized planets.
The chances for life are relatively slim, but there is evidence suggesting that three of the seven planets could be potential hosts to oceans, and maybe even life.

When i got the news i teared up, it just blows me away the things we find, and thinking about what we have yet to find.
I'm so proud of this discovery and look forward to learning more about the TRAPPIST-1 solar system.

Meanwhile, this edit...
I'M SORRY BUT THEY KEEP SHOWING PICS OF TWO PLANETS IN FRONT OF THE SUN AND IT MAKES IT LOOK LIKE A CARTOON WITH CUTE EYEBALLS SO I TOOK ADVANTAGE!
I HAD to use this to introduce and celebrate this, working on it was a little challenging but i am proud X3

Lemme know what you think of TRAPPIST-1!

Hahahah isn't it?
I cracked up when i first saw the pics because i was like "I HAVE TO DO SOMETHING WITH THESE"
Thank you!
New things are being discovered on it every day, too!

You're welcome! Hopefully those atmospheres can support life, no matter the species...

The chance that those planets could even have their atmospheres intact after hundreds of millions of x-ray blasts are quite... Low.

Appreciate the attempt, but not enough craziness. 8/10.

Lol well yeah, even if there's nothing i'm still excited to know of another solar system :"3

Actually these planets will be the prime targets for those megastructure maniacs who seek to terraform and live there. Empty, lifeless small rocky planets ready for colonization!

Ugh, geeze.

Sorry man, but we've done royally butchered our own planet, God save the ones that don't deserve our filthy destructive feet on them >:"(

Oh my god
I never thought a sun could be adorable, until this day.

But I'm so freaking excited by this! Life can be remarkably versatile, so I believe there has to be something on at least one of them, even if it's only simple jellyfish and slugs! I can't stop thinking about what cool life could evolve on them. Like, what are their seasons like, since the planets in the "goldilocks zone" are super close together (if you stood on one of the planets, the neighbouring planets in the sky would look bigger than our moon does in our sky here on earth)? What are the tides of the seas like for them? How long are their days? How long is a year? What kind of plants do they got? What colours are said plants (they could be blue or purple, instead of green)? Just.... ahhhhhh visiting and exploring planets like these is the only reason I'd go into space!

IKR SO MUCH TO WONDER ABOUT!!
So far from what i've learned, the planet furthest from the star only has a year 12 days long, and these planets all rotate on their axis at the same time they journey around the star, so one side is always hot, and one side is presumably always frozen O__o

and thank you!!!

Ooooh, I wonder if that means that any life that would exist would be in a constant state of sunset/sunrise? If there were any beings around the same intelligence as humans, I wonder of they'd think our day-night cycles were interesting?

That is so awesome!
Part of the difficulty of searching for life is that there may be life out there that is extraordinarily different to anything we have seen or know of on earth like extremophile species that thrive in climates of extreme conditions like hot, cold, radioactive, etc...

Exactly, and even if there's nothing with life in TRAPPIST-1, i'm still thrilled for this ;u;

Glad I'm not the only astronomy nerd around here...

Did you know we've found exo-planets orbiting around pulsars as well?

This one. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PSR_B125…

Actually, it's the first extrasolar planets founded. Draugr (A) and Poltergeist (B) were confirmed in 1992, and the next one, Phobetor (C), got confirmed in 1994, one year before Dimidium (51 Pegasi b).

This is so funny, and really cool. This must be so exciting for anyone in astrophysics or astronomy. It's an amazing find when you find one earth exo-planet, put seven in one? You just know somebody threw a party.
