Description
This has to be the brightest, most exotic dragonfly I've seen in this part of Florida. I got my shoes waterlogged stepping out close enough to get a picture of it. Also not sure of its type.Related content

They're gorgeous eh? I usually see six or seven species every time I go out... these are supposed to be a kind of Scarlet Skimmer but I get the feeling these orange ones are crossbreeds or mislabeled. They just look different from the other ones.

Wow u must have a lot of dragonflies around your place.
It looks more like a Libellula depressa (Broad-bodied Chaser) thats stole a scarlet skimmers color
Amazing thou! must be very rare.

You know what! I'm convinced these orange ones are crossbreeds. They're listed as scarlet skimmers several places online, but I really don't think so. They look subtly different to me. With all the species around here I don't think crosbreeding is much of a stretch either.

At certain times of the year we do. I think North of us near the panhandle they get even more.

We've mostly got the blue and green ones here too, but we also get a mixup of the other colors occasionally. It's the first time I've ever seen an orange one though.
