Description
If you're following this series in order, click here next . For more information on the entire series, read the "'Demon's Due' Defined" journal entry here. faile35.deviantart.com/journalβ¦***********************************************
Cautiously approaching the sound, Annalae recognizes the caterwauling of one of the feline companions she brought down with her. Now, however, thanks to the shocking bath of cold water, the Cat Witch's connection to the felines' senses is minimal. She is shocked when she stumbles onto a scene of unhinged feline panic and rage without any prior hint or inner warning.
The shock and horror of what this means keep Annalae motionless. She knows her bond with the summoned Cat Shade was severed, but that could be renewed with time and ritual. But being unable to share the senses of her feline companions means something else is at work. She wonders if perhaps that meddlesome scholar girl Luther dragged down into the Undercellar has done more than Annalae realized.
***********************************************
Again, Lindsey provided the stock photo for Annalae here. Thanks, Lindsey!
Sorry it took so long in getting here. Next one should be quicker. Couldn't find a place to stamp the (C) 2009 Jeff Fairbourn, but oh well.
Enjoy!

How do you pull of making cats look so damn evil?
This image definitely reminds one of Foxgirl's entry into the cellar, and now I'm curious is there will be some other parallels.
Good work on Annalea's shadowy-ness.

Fantastic work as always and it's good to see the little scaly guys back!

Very awesome job. And dang it's so hard being an evil minion, when the heroes don't pound the crap out of you, your own boss decides to betray you.

It's probably one of those cats that jump into their master's keyboards in the middle of a World of Warcraft raid. Maybe Jervil is a guildmate of mine.

You might be able to say that no cat was *harmed* in the creation of this picture, but I'm pretty sure all your years of teasing cats must certainly have *informed* this drawing. I'm still amazed you drew it without a reference. Also, Annalae looks awesome as always!

You're right. I must confess to thoroughly enjoying the teasing of small felines. I even love the YouTube videos people make of their cats' odd behavior. Cats are interesting, and while I have no real love for them, entertainment is another matter entirely...
Thanks!

That's just mean. My respect for you just dropped >.>
My cat Midas would certainly ruin your favourite clothes by ...soiling them Or your favourite shoes, he loves to use 'em as surrogate litterboxes. But really, don't bother the cats and they won't bother you. *huff*
But I do agree that the witch looks lovely.

Now, now, my brand of teasing cats doesn't include harming them. I tease them the way I like to tease children: playing with their minds and watching them think things through and react. One of my favorite youthful activities was tossing tiny rocks (as big as this "O") into the grass next to where a cat is lazing around. You know what they do when they hear that small noise. I like causing and watching that. Then I toss another one on the other side of them and observe the reaction. Another great one is to see this unfamiliar cat cruising along in its own little world until it notices I am watching it. Suddenly it stops, freezing and staring back at me. "Are you gonna' try and get me?" those eyes say. It becomes a staring contest that lasts until the cat decides I'm not a threat, but I like to try and drag the contest out by making subtle, harmless gestures that keep the little guy guessing. Then there's the "long stick" tease, which works well with a wheat stock that gives the cat the notion of a living object disconnected from me, tapping annoyingly around him like some demented insect. That one's worth hours of fun.
In the end, while I prefer to call it "teasing," it's really just playing. I've never been one for malicious cruelty to animals any more than I've been one for non-consensual abduction of women. However, what I draw sometimes falsely suggests the opposite of the former, and very often falsely suggests the opposite of the latter.
Thanks for the compliment!

Ah, alright then. You gave me quite a scare, there, you know D: Because my cats are my babies (...not literally, of course ;D), and I don't like to see any cat get hurt. But those actually resemble the silly little games I play with my silly kitties, so I guess it's all harmless fun.
Sorry for the rant from this crazy, vegetarian Dutch girl, I was in a slightly foul mood when I typed that, thus flew off the handle pretty easily x3
Anyway, keep up the good work And continue harmlessly playing with cats
Who knows, maybe you'll actually befriend one some day. My father used to think he'd never really get close to any feline when he was a teenager, but the 51-year-old couldn't live without them now x3 Was so sad when our darling female passed away >: She was old and sick and it was just her time. She lies in a beautiful spot in my grandparents' immense garden now, underneith the rosebush planted specially for her ^^
But I'll be eager to see more of the series ^^

No problem. I'm not a big pet lover. I don't even like fish. It's hard enough keeping a clean house with humans walking around; animals of any other kind are too much. But there's no doubt that pets of many different kinds bring a lot of happiness to people of all stripes. Regardless, I'm glad you're enjoying the series.

Oh wow, I couldn't live without my furry friends xD And actually, the mess isn't all that bad. We just need to hoover (vacuum for the American people) more often, and sometimes they throw up or decide the litterbox isn't awesome, but it's alright. The happy purring and warmth coming from the end of the bed when Puck's curled up there at night makes up for it <3
But you're right ^^ And Indeed, I'm enjoying it.

Ack, it's Gremlins at work again! Haven't seen the little guys in action for a while now. Poor kitty. I hope you haven't anything mean in mind for it Jeff; I love cats, have two of my own. Annie looks very sexy like that.
After all, why settle for a cat as a luxury mount when you can have a cat witch .

Well, Elina might not even know herself just how much damage a bucket of water can do to the connection between a cat-witch and her familiars, but the activities of the gremlins against the poor kitties (hope they get away more than Anna does) suggests to me that this broken telepathic connection is more likely the work of a certain "other" party with a grudge...
Excellant job btw.

Watch out Annalae, it's bait! Are we about to see another gremlin-swarm? Kewl!
So, is Callista having her clothes zapped off by the flying sperm balls at this very moment? Will we get to see the two bad girls together at the end of the chapter?
