Description
I think this is a "bleak future" story, in which a massive uprising of E.R.A. (that's "Equal Rights' Abolitionists") seek to undo 5,000+ years of male domination by reversing the trend. Actually, that's what a friend told me he thought of when I drew this ten years ago. I called the female insurgents W.I.D.O.W. (Worldwide Institute of Dominance and Order for Women), and the oppressed males H.A.M. ("Horde of Arrogant Men"). I had a lot of fun making these, but in trying to become more efficient and quick, the artwork tended to be second rate (for me). But, it's worth a "scrap" certainly. Look, Ma, no nudity!Enjoy. --Faile35

My mind can't help but play with the notion she's seen off one hubby already I like the irony of the names of the groups, those poor oppressed males (H.A.M. & the connotation of male chauvenist pigs) and the idea of a widow on sale is kind of like saying 'Next, please'.
Then there's the duality of seeing her as an object for sale while her expression has defiance and it's like she's growling ... or is that fear? The customer might not realise what he's taking on

Ah, yes. You caught the "pig" thing. I was quite proud of that one, actually. Simpletons can be proud of the smallest things... Your assessment of her character is similar to my own (it's not like I really KNOW what's going on in these); she's caught, tied, collared, chained, displayed, and sold, but you'd better be a real warlord to take this one home or you're going to need your refund money for hospitable bills...
...or a burial plot.
Incidentally, this piece holds one of the many pitfalls of ink--the dreaded "glob." And guess where it fell? Right on her left eye. I patched it up pretty well before scanning it in, but I had to use MS Paint (years ago) to get it back to what I had in mind. Look closely and you can see the difference. --Faile35

I couldn't see anything too untoward about the left eye, so good save! A lot of my earlier ink illustrations would end up with gunky heaps of correcting fluid (or it gets called Liquid Paper, or Tippex here). I used white pastel on my angels pic to recreate a drawing surface in order to add another chain - some purists would think that's a terrible thing to do, but I think these little errors and accidents are little reminders that perfection comes further down the line and maybe remains always out of reach. Persian rug makers leave a flaw in their carpets because achieving perfection would be a sort of sin, a challenge to their God even (but if their's is a deliberate flaw, that seems kind of arrogant too). Let's just say in my case, the Gods are safe; I'm a while off challenging 'em like Arachne
And you're not a simpleton, that's quite a sophisticated joke/pun.

So, I'm a sophisticated simpleton. Thanks. The WIDOW pictures did teach me many things about ink--you learn a lot from your mistakes when you work so fast that you make a lot of mistakes. I did this one in about 5 hours. Looking back on them is somewhat refreshing: It reminds me that I'm an equal opportunity "bondage" artist. So many of them have the women in control, and the men being subjugated quite forcefully and against their will. The women have "amazon" characteristics, but some of them are smaller ("normal" stature) and still manage to "woman-handle" the poor, brutish HAM fellas. I have only a couple more scans, but I'll try to dig up the original artwork and scan it in over the next few weeks. It seems that most folks appreciate images of women in bondage rather than of women putting men in bondage. Don't know why that is myself. I just draw the pictures...

For some reason I really, really, really like this picture!

Ha! Maybe you should whip up a few Notes to psychoanalyze yourself and figure out why that is, exactly...
Glad you like it. I think this is the same chick that is "man-handling" the guy in the "Training Room" picture. But is this picture chronologically before that one, or after? I have no inkling of an idea, so feel free to interpret its story context any way you like...

Why? Because it's wellmade and sexy. Hot fierce girl put up on display, that's all the reason I need.
Hmm...Well, if this one is chronologically before the other one, then that would explain her motivation for wanting to "man-handle" people I suppose. And if it's the other way around it coul dbe her punishment for doing it.

Well, no one can say you don't speak your mind, eh? That would imply that the WIDOW women are outlaws. Hmmmm. Never thought of that before. So, maybe the HAM guys are just reactionaries to the WIDOW mischief?
I just felt a dust-covered cabinet in my mind trembling to open. These drawings are artistically very old. Not sure if it's possible to get back into them again. It would be challenging, at any rate. --Faile35

Nope , they can't and especially not when it's almost midnight and i'm too sleepy to be proper.
I think that them being reactionaries makes sense. I mean, that's what typically happens if there's a sudden impactfull trying to liberate something. Up pops another movement trying to restrict that thing even more.
Well, "if at first you don't succeed", "fortune favours the bold" and all that jazz. Try it!

"We'll see." That's the best I can do right now. I've got five more paintings here in the studio all silently screaming at me for my attention. Thanks for the encouragement. --Faile35
