Each adoptable represents a level of hell in Dante's Inferno.
I left Limbo out because I couldn't think of anything interesting for it (I might do it later though if I get inspired).

The Inferno:

LEVEL 2- The Lustful. The wind bellows as the sea does in a tempest. sinners are blown around endlessly by the unforgiving winds of unquenchable desire as punishment for their transgressions.

LEVEL 3- The Gluttonous. The gluttons are punished here amidst eternal rain, maledict, cold, and heavy, lying in the filthy mixture of shadows and of putrid water.Cerebus, a canine monster cruel and uncouth with his three heads and red eyes, growls and tears at the damned with his teeth and claws.

LEVEL 4- Greed. Just before the river Styx is the Fourth Level of Hell. Here, the prodigal and the avaricious suffer their punishment, as they roll heavy weights back and forth against one another. Plutus, the wolf-like demon of wealth, dwells here.

LEVEL 5- The River Styx. In the river Styx are punished the wrathful and the sullen. The former are forever lashing out at each other in anger, tearing each other piecemeal with their teeth. The latter are gurgling in the black mud, slothful and gloomy, withdrawn from the world.

LEVEL 6 - The City of Dis. Satan's wretched city is a wide plain surrounded by iron walls. Burning tombs are littered about the landscape. Inside these flaming sepulchers suffer the heretics, who make themselves audible by doleful sighs.

LEVEL 7 - The Violent. encircled within the river Phlegethon, filled with boiling blood, is the Seventh Level of Hell, where the violent, the assasins, the tyrants, and the war-mongers lament their pitiless mischiefs in the river. This level is also home to the wood of the suicides- souls who committed violence against themselves- stunted and gnarled trees with twisting branches and poisoned fruit. At the time of final judgement, their bodies will hang from their branches to be pecked at by harpies.

LEVEL 8 - The Malebolge. any and varied sinners suffer eternally in the multi-leveled Malebolge, an ampitheatre-shapped pit of despair wholly of stone and of an iron colour. In here are punished Those guilty of fraudulence and malice; the seducers and pimps, sorcerers and fortune tellers, and thieves. Serpents writhe and wrap around men, sometimes fusing into each other. Bodies are torn apart. In this level the lamentations are the loudest.

LEVEL 9 - Cocytus (Brutus) This is the deepest level of hell, where the fallen angel Satan himself resides waist-frozen in ice, a giant beast with three heads, black, yellow, and red. His three mouths gushing bloody foam and eyes forever weeping, as they chew on the three traitors, Brutus, Cassius, and Judas. Brutus is placed feet first .

LEVEL 9 - Cocytus (Cassius) Cassius is also placed feet first, chewed for eternity in Satan's mouth .

LEVEL 9 - Cocytus (Judas) > Unlike Brutus and Cassius, Judas is placed in the central, most vicious mouth, head first. As he is torn apart, Satan's claws continuously rake and tear at his back, The beast's giant wings producing chilling winds that keep the ice in Cocytus frozen like glass. This is the place furthest removed from all light and warmth.
