Description
This one was a good practice, though I'm not pleased with the end resulting composition. It's a really bright, hot day with looooong shadows in eastern Escavia as Ki and Eqaetz charge across the wilderness, leaping a small creek along the top of a mountainside. A falcolf wheels in the distance in the sky (this is the first illustration that I have done with an apex predator in the background) but it is of no concern to the careening duo.I was not sure what kind of background to give to this lineart. In the end, it was sort of randomly composed, which I don't think gave the lineart any credit. I will do better next time; however, I do think that I did a great job in most of the individual elements of this.
Perhaps they're rushing in for the kill on some prey - the title refers to the lineart more than anything.
I'm relieved to be able to move on to the next illustration now.

You already know how much I love that plushy grass. Ki and Eqaetz really look like a team here and are going to get their mission done.

Oh great piece my friend! I love the sense of motion and the look of detirmination Ki has. The lighting is excellent too a definite late afternoon feeling there.

Really stunning. Your shading in this is some of the best I've seen, and the sheer detail is amazing. Your cell-shading is so good, I don't even understand it haha.

A powerful piece of work. You do so well illustrating the instinctive bond between Ki and Eqaetz. The parallel posing, gaze, and expressions really go toward showing it. The horizontal sweep of Ki's sword adds a great deal to the emotion and motion. Fantastic body language throughout. The challenging light conditions add another dimension and extra interest. Just absolutely stunning, all of it.

love it c: this is really a wonderful illustration. I love every part of it, especially the horse, I don't know why, but it just looks so...just really nice. I love how you did the markings, they look so soft ^^
the anatomy is really spot on, in my opinion. I don't know much about horse anatomy though and just by roughly judging on measurements on Ki, it looks like everything is spot on, as far as placement anyway. I'm also a little tired, so my eyes might not be working that well xD
I like the background c: I like the grass and the little plants and flowers and the subtle details of the water in the creek that they're jumping over. I like the mountains and the trees, the trees kind of seem too straight for trees, but I figure you did that to bring more focus to your subject by making them so simple like that. I also really adore that shading and the long shadows, it's so dynamic c: lighting really makes a difference to me, it just can make everything so much more appealing when you make it dynamic like this ^^
anyway, yeah, sorry you aren't happy with this, but I think you did really well

Thank you I'm really pleased with Eqaetz' dapples here.
I'm happy with the characters in general, and this is one of my favourite drawings of Ki.
I'm really happy that you like it, it makes me feel better about it in general. I simply worried that the background did not suit the poses of the characters which were drawn first, so I am pleased to hear that you think that they work together so well. Also haha, I actually always freehand my trees in an attempt to make them look less straight! I tend to base my tree shapes on aspens, because they're my favourite kind 1.bp.blogspot.com/-jS27xooBdGI… but now that you've brought it to my attention, I'll try to throw in more crooked looking trees next time. I had fun with the lighting.
Thank you again!!!

no problem c: No doubt, they look fantastic ^^
I think it suits them just fine c:
Oh..yea...I kind of thought maybe they were birch trees, which tend to be straighter to, but yea aspens makes sense to, they are really ridiculous street...
Nah, I doubt you need to, considering some trees are just that straight, it still seems unnatural to me, but that is how they kind of are and yea lol
That's no surprise c: it looks really good
no problem ^^

Oh, the trees aren't related to any Earth trees! I just base the shape somewhat off of real ones and then fly with whatever suits my fancy... seems like a good tactic for alien world trees haha! Thank you!

Oh lol they look so close to them...except for the color. That works though, that's a useful idea to create plant life for a different planet/world by basing them off preexisting species, I'll have to keep that in mind.
It's a tactic that works well, that's for sure c:
no problem ^^

I base all my stuff off of preexisting life (and of course, biology nonsense... like I recently drew Ki yawning only to realize that drakoon probably would have no biological need to yawn at all) so I think that it is the best way to go, particularly for believability - there's also just so much out there in the real world to draw from that you really can't go wrong. There's plenty of bizarre things if that's what you're looking for in terms of inspiration and even the mundane can hold unique inspirations.

Makes sense.
I just run out of ideas for backgrounds half the time...I really want to have some more variety...and want to use different colors. But yea, that's true, I find a lot inspiration from nature and things that already exist or even just letting my mind wonder a little bit. I really should get some nice nature magazines or books or something to use for inspiration.
