Description
This is my Mother's Day present for my mom!I'm actually very pleased that I waited so long to paint this, because I really don't think I could of done Neska justice a year ago. Now that I'm all trained up and know about underpainting (which I LOVE), it seems my art's gonna get heaps better from here on out.
If dA puts this in anthro like it does most of my art I'm gonna be pissed-! I don't draw anthro stuff!!! Can't they pay attention to their own gallery definitions?!
Neska belongs to himself & my mom.
Art by me. Do NOT copy, trace, alter, reuse or redistribute!

He's a beauty! Gotta love those black stallions!
I'm not quite sure what underpainting is though... could you explain?
I've also noticed the anthro-thing, and as far as I can figure out, if you combine 'fantasy' with 'animal' you get anthro in dA's book :S That's why instead of fantasy, I use 'original character'

Of course I can it's easy; you know Kesame's tutorial? [link] Well, I just follow that, then I duplicate the layer, turn the top duplicate to 'multiply' then I go top the bottom one, lock the transparancy and colour away.
It's really easy.
Ahhh I'll remember that! dA is just plain weird, isn't it?
Thankies!

Ahh, yes, I use that... sorta Just didn't know it was called underpainting... I'd sorta guessed, but wanted to be sure
And yup, dA certainly is! It's just that my brain is weird enough that after I made sure it wasn't I that filled in the wrong category, but just dA changing it, it connected fantasy and animal into anthro

man dA is sooo weird
Yeah that's the technical name. I heard it from one of the 2nd years and a professor. They kept telling me to do the shading first and whatnot and put the colour under and I just sort of figured it out on my own.

I basically do it the other way around still (usually)... do flats, then on a different layer do the shading... especially with Reckless, cause black and white definitely need different 'types' of shading

Yeah, very true with humans I often have to have two different shading layers, one for lighter bits like skin and the other for darker elements like cloth, hair and metal. (Like when I colour the drakoon. Evil creatures are multicoloured.
) I don't underpaint my cell style characters, because it's easier for me just to shading them normally, especially with the handy layer grouping feature that elements has. I used to do separate shading layers on characters like Kayoss, but I just sorta gave up after a while, because you can't really see it anyway.

Yeah, I wouldn't do more than one cell-style shading layer either... if I did that style... For some reason I can't cell-shade

Yeee okay. Underpainting is easy! First you gotta basically do the stuff in this [link] then yeh duplicate the layer and set the top duplicate to 'multiply' then you go to the bottom one, lock the transparancy and colour away on it. Real easy!
Thankies, I'm pleased.

I mean 'spirit guide' or 'animal totem.' If you don't know what those are I could tell you if you want and thankies.

Well, what animals do you feel like you have a connection with, what's your favourite? If you ever pretended to be a certain animal as a kid, than that's probably your guide. I've always had a fascination with wolves (since looong before dA or Balto) and when I was a kid I used to pretend to be a wolf. Later, I had an imaginary friend who was one and I later learned he was my guide. You can also have more than one guide, but most people have a primary one who sticks with them for most of their life. My guide, Wolf (who has never told me his real name) is an arctic wolf but I also have a horse guide and a cheetah. My mom has Neska, but she also has a turtle, a cougar and an owl.
Most of the artists on dA are either wolf, dog, coyote, fox, cat, big cat or horse totem people primarily. What do you draw most? That's likely what your guide is.

ok that's what i figured... i once tried asking my guide b4 i went to sleep and that night i had a dream and in it a saw a cheetah turn around an look at me and i kept hearing the word totem all echo-like lol.. they used to b my fav animal but now i dont really have one... i like tigers and lions a lot and horses, seals, & parrots.... (n btw wen i was a kid i pretended to b every animal in the world lmao)

Well it sounds like you might be a cheetah, if it was your favourite animal before. Sometimes if you ask a god to show itself (as you did) they will.
My guide didn't show himself for years, but I was aware of him.
