Description WOOSH! I UPLOADED SOMETHING!!!

One of several ink illustrations including some Princess Mononoke fanart that I have that needs uploading. This, obviously is from my own series and has nothing to do with Mononoke.

This is Phissara Ykaren! Admiral 'Fishbreath' Ykaren is one of my all-time faviourite Rimer characters and here he is being badhatz in his newly redesigned (or should I say designed?) dragon form. (Ykaren's a shapeshifting drakoon.) The beauty of working with ink is that if you make a mistake you can not fix it without photoshop and as I disdain using any more photoshop than the minimum for these traditional pieces, mistakes, including areas where I'm not so happy with the B/W contrast and accidental pen swipes are left intact. The only thing I photoshop out is the red pencil that I drew the illustration in originally.

So here is Ykaren, who as a character is worthy of much fangirling from his creator because of his sheer badassery. *Obsessed.* (He's so badass in fact that I have spent the last two months agonizing over the writing of his introduction part like a poop-head.)

This picture is very stylized compared to my usual work, especially in the wings (they are WAY too small) but sometimes you just wanna draw something artsy-fartsy.

MEOW.

NOTE! Ykaren is not furry, he is wearing ornamental armour made out of horse hair; while useless if he's actually hit (though there's some perfectly dependable chainmail beneath it) the horse hair serves the purpose of helping Ykaren freak the crap out of his enemies before he even attacks them. This is known as a fear tactic. Examples of real fear tactics employed by factual warriors in our history include war paint, fighting naked and the use of bagpipes - scare the crap out of your foe before meeting them and they're easier to defeat.

Gaah my computer's being dumb too! It turns off randomly at inconvenient moments, so it's really hard to use and get anything done on it. >< (Even writing! O.o I can have just ONE application open like writing, not even any internet or music and it turns off! Gaaah!!!) Meep! I haven't done anybody's prezzies yet, I'd better start!

Yee omg art of drakoon would make me die from awesome. XD

While the horse hair is an awesome fear tactic, the Eska-iscans still win at fear tactic use.
This is an awesome drawing though.

The sense of action in this is awesome. The pose and pen strokes definitely bring it home. His pose reminds me of the flexibility of a ferret. But unlike a ferret, Ykaren not only looks dangerous, but is. And that horse hair must've taken forever to collect and compile! Well worth it though. Scaring off your enemies is much tidier than cleaning your clothes (or armor, scales, etc.) of blood.

Dude, thanks for like the awesomest comment ever! lol yeah, I have images of him creepily running around the countryside in the night collecting the hair from sleeping horses and stables. XD Fear tactics are awesome, if you can scare your enemy into submission there's less chance you'll lose your life.

Talonzi In reply to Falcolf [2010-10-17 22:57:28 +0000 UTC]

Here I was thinking he had grooms collect the horse hair for him. I can see how creeping around collecting it himself might increase his scariness though. And you are welcome

XD well, he's an admiral, so he doesn't really have horses. He likes them though.

Hippocampii anyone?

Falcolf In reply to Talonzi [2010-10-19 23:34:06 +0000 UTC]

haha admiral means 'commander of a naval (sea-faring) force basically.' Of course that definition is pretty rough, mainly due to military ranking systems being WEIRD. (Different countries all seem to have it differently. ><)

Falcolf In reply to Ski-Machine [2010-10-17 20:39:29 +0000 UTC]

I missed posting here! Yeah, they're tattoos. Drakoon tattoo their wings for aerial identification, though Ykaren here has more than the norm.

Ski-Machine In reply to Falcolf [2010-10-17 23:48:42 +0000 UTC]

He's cool So, for armor purposes, since they have two forms they have two sets of armor right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Falcolf In reply to Ski-Machine [2010-10-18 20:33:54 +0000 UTC]

It depends on the individual - only high ranking drakoon are considered valuable enough to the emperor to wear armour in their dragon forms, but all combatant (military) drakoon wear it in their elven. Whether they wear it or not basically depends on if the emperor would care or not should they die. (Harsh XD.) Sketzine and imperials actually wear even more armour than Ykaren here, Ykaren's pretty much just wearing chainmail with a few bits of plate.

I really need to figure out at what rank drakoon (and cats) start to get armour. I'm sure that lower ranking officers might wear leather.
