Well it's been awhile since I've done something really good, and I've had a few people asking to see more of Emie... so I thought I might go all out for a change.I spent 4 days or so on this... prolly around 10 to 12 hours. Most of it was spent on the CG. Cel shading takes sooo long. But check out Emie's pants.. OMG that took forever. I'm not completely satisfied with it (note the crappy bg), and Hal's legs are too short, but other than that, I like it.
Emie is on the left, Hal is on the right. Emie is smaller and younger, and she isn't a fallen angel so her wings are intact. Also, they have shiny hair.
If you select Somewhat Like Deviation or Dislike Deviation, PLEASE give some kind of reason. Anything will do, but I can't make my art better unless you tell me what's wrong with it, can I?
EDIT: They both do have eyebrows (though they may be faint), and Halcyon's right boot (viewer's left) *is* meant to appear smaller. It is not the same boot... if you haven't guessed by now, I'm a big whore for asymmetrical clothing design. However, it would've been better to have matching boots. For the record.

Well, if the left boot is supposed to be smaller, then I'd suggest making it a different color, because right now it doesn't look like an intentional asymmetry as much as just a mistake.

I was looking over the picture again and noticed, like silentkitty said. The characters are weirdly slanted. Atleast Emie is the most slanted. And with out a back arm or wing(though that golden shadow around the wing could be it, I dunno) in behind she looks like a cardboard cut out. Though that actually look really funny in real life..

You practically said all its mistakes, but I disagree with the cell shade thing: I think you do agreat cellshade, far more better of what I could do.
but I agree with the Hal pant problem. and I think the mistake was to draw her pips to lower, that makes her look a bit odd...
besides that it's and awesome pic.

I believe this is the first time i have ever fav'd an anime or furry or whatever this type of art is called piece.
Not trying to ofend i just honestly dont know.
Anyhow...the colors are fantastic...and the overall look of the image really caught my attention.

I found inspiration in the childish way you draw figures... although my stuff is a lot darker then your's...I love the simplicity...the essence you capture int he colours, in your lines... in missing out almost everything but the essentials in the way you draw... it's done to a very high standard.
There are a few minor flaws in the anatomy but nothing that gets my gripey... they just add to the quirkyness of this piece. It's stylised so it's ok!
P.S. LOVE the colouring...especially in the background. Nice!

sheesh 79th to comment.. your so lucky. I know being this late to respond, this may not mean as much, but this picture is great! It looks slightly different than your other pics, but it still holds you unique style!! I love it.. Hal is my fav! :hearT:

To be honest with you, this isn't one of my favorite works of yours.
My main issue is with the pose of the girl on the left. She's not leaning up against Hal, but yet she's at a diagonal to the ground - she'd fall straight over if she was really in that position. Also, she seems to only have one arm? It seems like you should at least be able to see a hint of her other arm behind her, since, judging by the hand the you can see, her sleeves are fairly puffy, and she's very thin. Same with the wings - she seems to only have one. The lack of a back arm and wing are making her look a little bit flat and adding to that awkward pose.
On Hal, I agree with whoever it was above that said it's not that her legs are too short, but that her torso seems to be a little stretched out. It's not a bad look, though, I kind of like it. The only thing that's really bothering me on her is her right foot (viewer's left) - the boot on her left leg is pretty big, but the way that the folds of her pants are falling on the right boot makes it look like it's much much smaller than the other.
I'm not sure about the giant, giant eyes, either, but that's just a personal preference.
Nice work as a whole, but you've done much better, IMHO.

Im loving the detail you put into his pants, and those boots are kickass. Congrats on getting into the faves. Very worthy piece for it.

I don't think its Hal's legs that are too short but her torso is too long. ^ ^;
What I would have liked to see would probably seeing Emie glow a bit more. She's not a fallen angel so shouldn't she be a bit holy or what not?..
And maybe instead of a background make it completely black or something. Emie and Hal will stand out more if the background was darker.
Otherwise..Excellent piece. I like it.

i wish there was a vote between "like" and "somewhat like." because i'm not fond enough for "like," but it's better than a "somewhat like!"
i think that (unless you're going for realism) especially in anime, there is no "right anatomy." it's so refreshing to see fun and new anatomy styles with each artist. you obviously have a great concept of the figure, and you've molded it with your own hands to suit you~ which is great. if everyone drew anatomy the same... hn. it would be boring! yeah, so what if her leg's a little short?
it irks me slightly when animated characters have no eyebrows~ but that's your style, don't change it!! ^_^ it's just that eyebrows add so much to an expression ^^; i'll admit the face and hands look underdone compared to the awesome shading on the pants/boots/etc, but a piece doesn't have to be intricately detailed to be good.
i love the poses~ very, very cute. hal's hand (the one around emie) looks perfect~ very anime. ^_^; you've got major talent~ keep up the great work!

very impressive.. cool!! i like the pants design man... i think u spend most of your time on the pants ?? so detailed.. got it's own style.. sturdy looking boots.. kind of remind me of Cloud's boots from FF7..
but 1 thing i think isn't realli good.. is their hair... very bright... too white i think... maybe adding colours to them ?? oh i think i know y i find it strange.. the hair seem so bright but their lower body (pants, boots etc) are in dimmer colours.. so the contrast is abit off..
i love the right eye of the red pant ger... realli cool.. but overall they all CUTE n ADORABLE!! very good job!! keep it going!! +deviantwatch

now I know I may get hell for 'disliking this deviation'(especially because I can't do anything this well)
Things done well:
the shading
background, it fits the image well
the 'glowing'
the pose(although I wonder how the one on the left{hal, right?} isn't falling...angel power?)
Things that take away from the picture:
The texture on the metal is distracting and takes away from the shading work
the faces need work, although everything is placed correctly they look strange. The mouths are almost the same, and the eyes are a little too huge, plus the eyebow/lashes on the far right eye are kind of strange. In all the faces remind me of a betty boop character.
also(though this took some looking, and may be intentional) the sketchyness around the drawing especially the left knee on hal takes away from it.
also cell shading should not take as long as it took you, I'ld like to see how you go about doing it.

The face? I don't know...I really like it...all has their own styles...supposed to be chibi, ne? But then again...I am pretty much of an anime freak...guess I'm used to these different styles...^^;;
Well...I'm sure many have mentioned this already...amazing cell...colouring...
The folds, yes...I can see it must have taken a LOT of time...but for much it has taken...it looks amazing! @__@
This was very eye catching even by looking at the thumbnail size...^^

very very nice, but i'm not too keen on the faces and hair because they look unfinished compared with the rest of the image. i think maybe if you studied facial anatomy more they'd look even better ^^; and i think the reason why the girl on the left's legs look stumpy is because she's taller than the other girl but her torso is longer. your folds are FANTASTIC though, and it makes me jealous *giggle* amazing work

I don't think my +devwatch is working..... -_____-; But I do think this pic is insanely awesome~~ You've already basically pointed out the few subtle flaws, so all I can really say is that i LOVE the cel shading on Hal's dress thing and Emie's pants. @_@; omg....cel-shading...blows my mind~ It obviously looks a bit different from your usual art, but I really like this alternative look too! It's like a softer cel-shading style....and I luff. 8D *gnaws* *envies* *favs*

I really love this. The pants look so fabulous. Your work is so inspiring to me. The only bit of advice I could give would be the background, which isn't really bad at all, and you're already aware of that. Keep up the great work!

Hey Matt, you did a really great job on this picture. Im enjoying Hal's hand. The one thats around the other girl. Well done indeed. And you used Photoshop for the cellshading? Beautiful. I don't have the time to do it. Or the pratice. For some reason, i like to blend my skin.
The only thing that i think bugs me, is Hal's legs. They look stumpy, but that might be because she has on huge boots. Cause it might look ok if it was just her legs. I don't think there is anything wrong with the faces. Its how you draw, and its your style. If you did what everyone else does, everything would look the same, and thats fucking boring.

although i like this very much, it would be cool to see you try a few different variations in faces....i think you definitely have the talent to go beyond this stuff...the anatomy is okay, in my opinion, because it's part of your style...
and the shading on the pants is excellently done. the only thing i'm picky about are the generic faces. overall, great work

I like the Hal's hand on Emie's shoulder, the highlights on the boots, Hal's glove adn Emie's pants design.
As for critisizm, I agree with Maui, though I have grown used to your face style, it just seems to go with the rest of your art, though the anotamy could use some work.
