Description
For this year's art summary, I tried to pick the pics that I was most proud of for each month.January
Sparky, but she's a cat for some reason or another
This picture was base off of an old sketch I did awhile back and never finished. It was a good example for myself where my art has improved and where it still needs work. Throughout the months after I initially drew it, this pic also served as a tool for testing and improving the various shading methods I've experimented with. That's why the version in the link looks quite different from the version in the meme.
February
Nyanyanyanyanya
This one was a hard choice given some of the pieces I did in February, especially since she was competing against the most popular bat girl in my gallery and an anthro version of Levina . Nyan won out in the end because it wasn't really any sort of technically difficult piece, I just had a lot of fun planning and executing it. It still makes me happy to look at : )
March
Holo-Lynx
Yet another redraw of a past piece that I felt had potential but deserved another shot. This pic is where my modern shading methods and unusual techniques started to take off, which is why I chose to feature this one instead of Ready To Fly . I love the design I made for an anthro Latias, but her pose and execution doesn't really match up to the one I used for Nicole.
April
Fluffy On My Desk
This was, in my opinion, my most successful attempt to merge reality and my artwork. It was also my first time coming back to painting fur, which is what REALLY makes this one pop. I still haven't figured out again exactly what I did and how to do it again.
May
Dustine and Lamp
I only had two really technically interesting pics in may, so I chose the one that firmly established Dustine as a member of my cast of characters. It also established her sassy attitude and dislike of lamp memes.
June
Dr. Krio, but she's having a rough day
June was a relatively dry month for me, so I didn't have a lot to pick from. This drawpile sketch was my go-to simply because this is probably my best human I've ever drawn. Hands down.
July
Draconic Mechanic
I had three technically demanding drawings to choose from in July. I chose the one of Sparky because I'm most happy with how this one turned out. It shows well just how much my drawing and shading styles have changed since I started the year.
Also out of July came one of the best background's I've ever produced . The only reason that didn't make it into the featured spot is because the featured character, intended to be the main subject, blends right into said background.
August
He's a rat, you dork!
TBH the only real reason I featured this one is because I like the pose. And it's one of the few drawings I did in August that wasn't a comic or a member of the chess club , which already has a featured representative.
September
The Rook
September saw a lot of experimenting with combining traditional tools with digital coloration, exemplified by the chess club series . I chose the Rook out of all of them because she's my favorite member by far. The King was also a technically demanding challenge, but this time I decided to go with my preferences.
October
They Come Every Year
Thanks to Asktober, October was filled to the brim with digital/traditional hybrid experimentation. I can't NOT pick this one because it represents everything that I learned over that period all rolled into one piece. Also of note was this Princess , this entire Dustine comic and this drawing of Sparky's airskipper , all of which I'm also quite proud of.
November
Mimi
I did two drawings of this character in November, both of which required some techniques that I'd never tried or used before. I chose this one over the other because this little ghost cat girl deserves to be happy. And I chose Mimi to represent November overall because I enjoyed the entire process of designing her character and story.
December
Beach Bat
For December, I had a choice between two pieces that I was pretty happy with. I chose this one because it demanded some interesting problem solving in order to execute. Problems such as "how to turn a pony character into a bat while still keeping the basic character traits intact," and "how does one put a swimsuit on a bat anyway?" The latter was an especially interesting one to solve, and I intend to try it again on Dia. Though perhaps with a bit more fabric next time.
