here is the first of our Christmas tree hanging ornaments.

The design for this took a bit of thinking. We're making these on the embroidery machine, using it to do both the embroidery and the circular running stitch to hold it all together. By the end of the machine run there are 6 layers of fabrics stitched together, with 16 baubles waiting to be trimmed to size, turned through, stuffed and hand stitched closed.

The embroidery for the knotwork took a bit of development too. It's based on the same knot used on our t-shirt designs ( fav.me/d719i4l and fav.me/d6uu30c ), but the stitch construction is totally different. Here we are using a very expensive metallic thread and we got the maximum sparkly effect with minimum stitches by having a low density zig zag in 2 layers with 50% offset. The embroidery software (Pulse) could not produce this stitch effect within it's satin stitch settings so we had to manually set the stitch points for each segment.

Fabric is a polyester satin backed dupion. We're using the matt side of the fabric as the background for the embroidery and the shiny satin side of the fabric for the plain back of the bauble.
