Description This texture is a more or less realistic representation of planet Uranus using data from the Keck observatory. I made this by mixing John van Vliet's fictional Uranus map:
www.celestiamotherlode.net/cat…
and Snowfall's Keck map made of IR images: snowfall-the-cat.deviantart.co…
In this texture the south pole is up (since this is confusing considering Uranus' odd rotation, I mean the pole that was facing the sun during the Voyager 2 flyby). Uranus' atmosphere is now much more active than in 1986 when a global smog layer hid all the structures. I let the south pole untouched, so the Voyager 2 flyby still looks roughly this way.

This is the best we got from poor Uranus, even this 2k texture still looks blurry. We need to go back to this planet, but sadly, no spacecraft mission is planned right now. Even it is good to see the outer solar system gets more attention recently, exploring the worlds we know the least about should be a higher priority.

For Celestia users: Here the ssc-syntax I am using for Uranus:

    SpecularPower    2
    SpecularColor    [ 0.2 0.22 0.22 ]

    Atmosphere
    {
        Height        130
        Mie        0.0004
        MieAsymmetry    -0.25
        Rayleigh    [ 0.00002 0.00006 0.00010 ]
        Absorption    [ 0.00008 0.00002 0.00003 ]
        MieScaleHeight    80
    }

I used a texture here:

At least JohnVV's take on Uranus includes its complete set of rings. What do you think if Uranus had this texture and JohnVV's texture of its rings on Space Engine?

yeah... at least for my Celestia project I think I won't include the fuzzy outer mu, nu E- & G- Rings, because they are only visible in scattered light, but Celestia just blends the rings out at high phase angles.
Space Engine can render scattered light of rings, so it won't be any trouble to extend the rings of Uranus to mu & nu. You just need to use a higher texture resolution so the inner rings won't become fuzzy.

i love it! <3 and i agree with your description on visiting Uranus! why do i have a feeling they will visit Neptune first and leave Uranus ignored somehow lol

Thanks hm I don't think they will visit Neptune first. There are solid plans for an Uranus Orbiter, not so for Neptune. Plus, Uranus is closer, thus an easier destination. But even if they visit Neptune first, it will still be great!

no problem = )
we will have to see what happens, would love to see them both explored!

totally agree! If NASA just keeps its promise from the dedical survey. Uranus was 3rd priority... and a cooperation with ESA would be reasonable for exploring the ice giants.

for sure = ) a cooperation would go well and add more to the mission. i really hope it happens!
