Description While searching for data I could use for my Jupiter truecolor texture maps, I found a dataset for Uranus and Neptune also: archive.stsci.edu/missions/hls…
The Neptune maps weren't that interesting, but we don't have good maps of Uranus, so I decided to do one. I processed the color filters centered around 467, 547 and 658 nm to get close to real colors and matched color according to this site: www.donaldedavis.com/2002_addo…

The data was aquired by Hubble in November of 2014 (later maps would show even less of the southern hemisphere). I filled the gap in the northern hemisphere with a Voyager texture (also from real photography). So this map shows Voyager's view of the planet correctly also

Note that south is up (hemisphere imaged by Voyager 2). Celestia requires this orientation for retrograde rotators. Because of the low contrast I decided to leave the texture in 16 bit color depth to avoid artifacts, even though for most uses this depth isn't avaliable anyways.

I also processed 2 other version, for one I used the luminance of the IR filter map to increase the details and for the other one I used Snowfall's Keck map and a highly-processed Voyager image to increase the details in this map. Resolution isn't higher though. I might make an addon featuring all 3 textures...

How do you do this? I was interested!

Do you have good maps of Neptune?

Hm I made a recolor of this one reflecting real color and albedo. I also made a cloud map that is somewhat sharper...

looks good = ) i still love Uranus just being simple. with maybe some polar hoods, and that's all.

thank you yes I want my textures to be photorealistic most of the time.

for sure! my personal exploration of the universe is to see things as they really are, unfiltered, even if it is disappointing compared to the processed images out there. cuz then i know its real. = )

right enhanced images might be more beauiful, but at this point it's hard to tell what's even real. Some people who don't know better might think Venus is actually blue (I know someone...)

yeah i bet >.< doh. i hate the overly orange pictures they have of Venus too that always make it look molten and i hate the cheesy orange snak colour they make mars too!! or a solid green uranus

Yeah... just because we say a planet has a orange hue doesn't mean it is actually orange. We have to distinguish when a picture is enhanced to draw out some details. Regarding Venus, I made something I believe is close to reality: Venus White Marble - Celestia Addon

For sure = ) and that is exactly Venus, from what i remember it as in telescope, just a white ball. looks good!

Right I forgot to mention it, it's oriented this way because Celestia requires the south to be up on retrograde rotators.
