Description
A cover for the number 10 of "Studi Lovecraftiani" [link] , an Italian publication about HPL. This picture was a lot of fun to do, 'cause I had the opportunity to paint both Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard in the same piece. As HPL is probably fighting or calling from the deep some ancestral horror, Robert Howard is using the sword of one of his better known characters, Conan, to send the horrible serpent people back to hell.Having read some of the letters that HPL & REH used to send to each other I think they could have had some fun in seeing themselves depicted this way... Or at least is what I sincerely hope. This work is respectfully dedicated to the memory of Howard Phillips Lovecraft and Robert Ervin Howard.
You can see a sketch of this one, compared to the completed work, on my blog: [link]

Ci mancherebbe! Grazie a te, Cart, e scusa per il ritardo. Ultimamente non ho tanto tempo per DeviantArt, ma appena riesco ci faccio un salto. Bello il tuo ritratto di Oberyn! A presto!

Reminds me of the Diego Rivera mural "Detroit Industry" in it's dark colors, compartmentalized subjects and ominous skylines. Minus Cthulhu of course.
Here's a link link to an overview of his work. Check the North or South walls for the resemblance.

Thank you! Another deviant talked me about Rivera, so I know his work, but I can't say it's one of my source of inspiration. Anyway it's an honour to be compared to an artist like him! Thank you!

Oh and I recognized Lovecraft from the thumbmail before I even get all the things around them both so don't worry, you drew him well, some people just need some good pair of glasses.
