Description
This was partly inspired by 's OMARDOCER and KABUTOXON. I figured that if OMASTAR and KABUTOPS recieved Kroel evolutions, then why not give AERODACTYL a Gaenn evolution? Honestly, I feel sorry for the poor guy, because despite having a unique type combo and being my favorite Generation I Pokemon, he doesn't have an evolution yet.Of course, there are a LOT of pterosaurs that could have been used for a basis, but none of them had the combination of badassery and resemblance to Aerodactyl (e.g. size, long tail, teeth, and the like). And then it hit me - the Leonopteryx/Toruk from Avatar. As this is the largest predator on Pandora, I decided to throw in some of its features and color scheme to the design.
-AEROPTERYX (Aerodactyl+Leonopteryx)
-Rock/Flying
-Primeval Pokemon
-Height: 11'6"
-Weight: 252 lbs
-Ability: Rock Head/Pressure
-Evolves from AERODACTYL with a Kings Rock
-"AEROPTERYX was known as 'The King of the Cretaceous Skies,' and for a good reason. Its enormous wings measured up to 50 feet wide, and with them it could fly at 175 mph, blotting out the sun in the process. Its mouth was full of razor-sharp serrated teeth which, combined with its huge curved talons, ensured that anything unlucky enough to end up in its clutches was doomed."
I tried to base this guy as best as I could off both Toruk and Aerodactyl, especially the head-crest. I could've done better, but at least I hope I made the head-crests recognizable enough.
I think I'll try for evos for Craydily and Armaldo next . . .

Wow! I was thinking of the same idea of Leonopteryx Aerodactyl less than a month before!

A very amazing and great idea! This pokemon did infact need an evolution as though it maybe just a mode of transport and a very tough pokemon if trained right it still would need an evolution for popularity points and i guess just cause it maybe deserves one really?
Still very brilliant idea.

Thanks! I agree, Aerodactyl is awesome as it is, but an evo would definitely give him the ultimate dose of awesomesauce.

I screamed when I found out what you based Aeropteryx on. I love Avatar too watched it two times already.
When I first saw your comment on the basis for Aerodactyl I thought Aerodactyl was maybe a combination between the Rhamphorhynchoidea family and Rodan a Toho Daikaiju who has those characteristic two horns on the head. Also Instant favorite.

Thanks! I have the Avatar movie on DVD, so I figured it would be appropriate to pay homage to my favorite Pandora species.
Also, you're not the only one who noticed the Rodan connection, because I also unwittingly incorporated Rodan's color scheme in this guy too. I always imagined Aerodactyl as a purple Rodan with a long tail, so there you go.
Thanks for the fave, by the way.

I also have the Avatar DVD. My father bought and my parents still haven't watched it because I have it in my apartment over their garage. I still have to give it back to them. I love it that much.
I also am a deviant watcher of a great daikaiju artist called KaijuSamurai. He has a entire section of his gallery full of his reimagining of Toho Daikaiju. He calls his reimagining Godzilla Neo.

Hey, so am I! I love his art so much that I even have a separate account to handle the kaiju stuff. Check it out!

Awesomeness.
Though the evolutionary method is inconsistent. I hate going around pointing this out to every evolution of a pre-existing Pokemon I see (not particularly from you, but from all of dA) since I do understand that this is merely for fun, but I'm trying to get over it.
Hey, at least you refrained from giving the creature a part Dragon typing, unlike what so many people do. Props for that.

Thanks for the comment! It was fun to do, and I didn't want to waste the Flying type like I did with my Skarmory evo. But as for the evo method, I noticed used a King's Rock for his evos for Omanyte and Kabutops, so I figured I'd do the same to Aerodactyl too.
