After sharing some methods with nam-o I thought I might as well make a little animal-eye tutorial, and since other people have mentioned it as well.I make no claims to the most efficient or effective method - this is just a few simple tricks I learned over the years that I thought you might enjoy.
In Corel Painter X but could easily be adapted to PS.

Yes it is almost identical in Photoshop, the only difference is the program interface itself, not the technique. If you have any trouble adapting it feel free to note me or add me on msn (rumi@fealoki.com), I'm always happy to talk art/programs/techniques! :3
