For my Illustration class. Had to design a cover for American Illustration.This is a media study, not a final.
Acrylics and ink on wood panel.

It's a cute little birdie...not sure how I feel about it sticking it's little hind end up at me...but oh well...tis a bird. I like the textures and the concept though. Painting on wood sounds fun...though...all those splinters.

It's funny and very pleasing to look at. I really do like the idea of painting on wood grain like that.
Maybe you would want to try maple. I don't know if you can find any cheap where you live but the red undertones might give you a really nice texture in the end. *ponders* Oak would be too dark...

I didn't know that you could actually buy wooden canvas like that. But I still think that if you sanded down a piece of good maple.. it would be a lot of fun. X3 I've lived around wood most of my life, my mom is a carpenter so I sort of know my wood. *laughs at her own pun* ahem... yes. O.o
