Description
This was a christmas present for my big sister, since she absolutly loves the animated version of "The Last Unicorn". It's sculpted entirely out of polymer clay and painted with acrylic paints. It took about 30 hours start to finish and unfortunately the pictures do not do justice to the level of detail. I'm hoping to get some better samples at some point. It's about 10 inches long, and 5-6 inches tall.Related content

Stunning. You can really tell that it's supposed to be the last unicorn/lady Amalthea, but she's so detail that I feel that this is what she'd look like in real life.

I'd love to have such a cute little sculpture like that, and I'm sure your sister would have been thrilled; who wouldn't be! She looks quite delicate - it would have been awesome to see closer up photos of her to get a better appreication of the detail. Beautiful job!

I think this is smashing. I'm not sure how useful an advanced critique will be to you as this was submitted in 2006, and I don't really have much criticism anyway. I will say that it's a shame the images aren't bigger, it would be lovely to see a closeup of the face.
I just got done sculpting a laying down unicorn, so I know what a challenge it is (standing is easier by far) and you have her looking wonderfully naturalistic. I love the detail in the mane too.

What type of modeling clay would you suggest for someone whos just beginning and needs time?

I'd say go with Sculpy. My favourite type is the Super Sculpy that comes in a green box for about 15$ It doesn't harden until you bake it, so you don't have to worry about it drying out on you, and you can cook it in any conventional oven. Tip: Sculpy is temperature sensitive. As it warms up in your hands it will get softer, if you find it getting too soft, then throw it in the fridge for a couple of minutes, and vice-versa if it's too hard then just keep working it with your hands and it will soften.

Its absolutely gorgeous, I've always loved that animation since I was little.. I remember seeing it on tv and getting my mum to tape it, but now the tapes deteriorating..
Amazing detail, you need to get a macro view of it so everyone that doesn't understand the true difficulties of sculpture can really see!
