Finally got my Video Card upgrade!Now I got a quite cheap, but much a better video card than before - nVidia GeForce 6200 With 256 MB DDR and fully DirectX 9.0 compatible (unlike my old 4200)
I also got a extra 512 MB of RAM, and the performance change is noticeable, a little. So now I have 1.5 GB of ram which is between the minimum (1GB) and perfect (2 GB)
Even though they wre supposed to put it in a extra slot, that way i could have 2 GB, but it's not really such a big difference anyway.
Aero is really sweet in my opinion, and not slow at all, in fact it runs no slower than basic, so I think I will be using it all the time. The full vista ultimate experience is much much better with aero! Not to mention that I'll get enhanced graphics in games, will be able to run movie maker etc.
I'm going to switch to vista as the full time OS now, maybe do some customization later.
I won't abandon XP completely though, I might make some changes to Aero Ultimate, since I got the real deal now.
I also recommend everyone who is still on XP to try vista, it's JUST AWESOME!

AGP stuff is more expensive you know. If I had a PCI slot (in fact, i dunno if i do) I would get a nVidia 8400 GS, it's like 10 bucks more than 6200. But there is something suspicious about that 8400... it's too cheap...

Of course you have PCI.
Graphics cards use PCIe, though.
If you have AGP, then no PCIe, and vice versa.
Ahh how I wish I could find an unused AGP card.. oh well.

GeForce 5500 isn't crappy, it's enough for aero, but not so good for games.
And yeah, RAM, DDR I assume?

I use DDR40/PC3200, but apparently, Dell uses RAM which must have some sort of Dell check, similar to Dell OS CD's checking the BIOS to see if it's a Dell.
I'm not sure if it applies to my model, but I'd rather not spend money if it doesn't work.
And the 5500, I want to be able to play Halo 2 decently.

Hmm, not sure about branded components. Also my 4200Ti could play Halo 2, a generation higher card should be able to play it better.

Yeah, the only thing that sucks about Vista is that most of the WindowBlinds skins don't work right on Vista(the close, min, max buttons are off etc.) even for ones that say there for Vista.

That's true, most WB skins have to be re-made to fit vista's guidelines.

Yeah, I think I may take the time to watch mrrsete(I know its spelled differently lol) video on how to make WB skins so I can start to make some Vista compliant skins.

ok i know theres ppl saying it sucks and a debate between weth vista suck or is good. well my comp is 5 yrs old shouldnt even be able to run the damn thing and its running it better the xp. i have an amd xp 3000 2.1 prossesor 1 gig ram 320 gig hard drive along with a 160 and an 80 exturnel. 2 disc drives but like that matters. my video card needs to be updated its a radeon 9250... and i dont have a pci-e slot -_- also im using a ps/2 mouse. and im running it better then i did with xp on it. so im fine with vista home premium. for a better look at my system specs go to xfire and look me up zby677. oh nice on the upgrade fediafedia.

Vista is better optimized too, it has Superprefetch and stuff, that's why some programs run faster.

Welcome to Aero lol I take it your not a pc gamer cause I hade a intergrated graphic card like that only I didnt get good details from there I went to the nvidia 7300gs then went to the nvidia 8800GT I am pleased with my 8800GT granted if you jkust want the effects then yes the nvidia 6150 will do. Or anything above that like you have is the 6200. But if you looking at gaming in the future you wont be dissapointed in the 8800GT

Thanks, and no, I'm not a gamer. Sometimes I play stuff like half-life 2 and portal, nfs etc - even my 128 MB 4200Ti could handle that with no problem

Gratz man! I agree Aero does run faster than basic for me too, my computer has a little bit of a lag at the bootscreen but its mostly because of all the bloatware preinstalled, and taking up my performance. Even with custom themes, my computer still runs great. Anyway congrats on aero

Weird, torrents speeds on XP are much faster than on vista, for example on XP I get 3 MB\s+ for a torrent download, while on Vista it doesn't go over 1 MB\s... =\

Seeds doesn't mean faster, if you have a seeder with 100% from your network, you'll get sky high speeds.
That's why I mostly use private torrent trackers from my country.
