Description Firstly let me explain, i'm not here to quarrel or blame someone.
These days western world have a voice of "free tibet". Some of them even suggest to boycott the Beijing Olympic.
I see several quarrels on DA about it.
I just feel so bad for it.
I don't want to say agree or disagree here, i just want to say the truth.
By the way , I'm a selfish person, tibet problem is never my business. I just don't like people say dirty words to each other. DA is just a place for art and people who love art.

Here is what i know about Tibet.

The start is , a few people instigated the enmity , that caused tibet people (sorry i don't know how to translate it )killed some innocent passerby. Some foreigners faced the event, they can prove it true.
Again, i don't want to blame anyone, i just don't like violence.

That's all I want to say.
Why we don't just to choose a peace world? why fight?
Gossip means nothing, please use your own eyes.
I hope everyone can clam down, the "freers(i mean free + er...XD)",and our chinese.
Please make sure what's the truth.
And I don't know what's wrong with Olympic, it's just a sport game, i think it's pure, why don't just talk about sports?
You may be agree, thank you. You may disagree, that's all right.
I'm just here to say STOP quarreling on DA.
Please clam down.
1 year before, when i first registered here, it was a place that the only language was art.
I want to see the world again.
Thank you for reading.

ps. forget my horrible grammar plz, thank you XD

it's not like i didn't suffer from the damn government.. i just think tibetan rebels are wrong for what they did to chinese civilians, they think all of us are the same. that's just shallow. i would support them more if they don't treat us like shit. there was this woman from tibet, who we helped alot since she was new around town, and she talked shit on my family's back. how do you think i feel about that?

You're making a lot of angry statements without analyzing the irony in your own words. I can't speak for the Tibetans you've known personally, but you're making generalizations on race and nationality based on one negative experience. That's a form of racism, as much as a person saying all Chinese are stuck up or all Mexicans are gangsters, etc. because they know one such person of that background is...such blanket judgments obviously are NOT TRUE. Tibetans aren't known for making hate campaigns against mainland Chinese-violence arises in ALL cases when a people has been oppressed for decades. (The French Revolution, the Hatian rebellions, etc.) It's not such a black-and-white case of who started it...For example, the Chinese government was fully entitled to legally punish the rebels, but was it really right for a world superpower to impose martial law on a tiny region for the offense of a select few?

I'm sorry to hear that one person made you suspicious and unhappy towards an entire ethnic group, but as painful as that experience was, it was a personal betrayal. Even though we have very different opinions, it sounds like we're both Chinese-American- I think it's noteworthy that I at least don't get a shallow vibe from Tibetans, and I hope in time you won't either.

I think we shouldn't spam this artwork anymore...if you want to continue this discussion, you're welcome to note me or leave something on my front page.

No... just, no.

You don't call years of systematic oppression and censorship "emo". Peace is not something that should be "enforced"; it's a product of mutual respect, which is not the case here. Miscasting the dissenters as troublemakers is an old political trick that informed people need to fight against.

The Chinese government has ruined the lives of some people very close to me. China is a wonderful country with a great history and people, but like all governments, it will continue to exploit its citizens unless there is protest.

And yes, the peice is absolutely beautiful.

doesn't give them right to ruin all chinese civilians lives. and yes the government is wrong, but those extremists are wrong too. doing innocents wrong doesn't make you much better than the government.

you know what.. i am not even going to argue about this... *walks away*

Feimo, I've been in love with your work since the day I joined DA.

Art is a form of expression, & you do so beautifully.

Peace is a goal worth striving for, no matter what some people say & no matter how hard it may be to achieve it.

I don't enough about the situation to really make an informed opinion, but I commend you on standing up & speaking your mind. It is a quality that should be admired.

Your art is beautiful. I love it! I admire you.

To say "DA is a place for art" is correct. But you're wrong if you think art is a separate category from politics; what do you think propaganda is, to give one extreme and extraneous example. So it's very relevant. It's important to people, ergo they express themselves with the means they have at hand.

I don't know all that much about the situation (this specific one, I'm more familiar with the whole and I'm not going to go on about it because I don't want to start a flamewar when I don't even pick sides), but what I do know is that a lot of criticism of China stems from its human rights violations. And, y'know, that's a part of relations. You have more than just your opinion influencing internal situations. Sometimes it isn't that smooth.

As for the Olympics; it empirically is a sports program. But it has a history of politicking; the 1939 Olympics in Berlin, the US boycott of the Moscow Olympics, the murdering of Israeli athletes...it is a part of world politics. You get the bragging rights.

And that's all I really have to say.

Bannanaluv In reply to risius [2008-03-26 17:41:28 +0000 UTC]

Risius is completely right. To essentially ask people to stop talking about something because it isn't *art related* on a site for art, you have to take into consideration that art expresses peoples thoughts, opinions, and messages; essentially their own core depicted in image (or any other form). Thus, to ask people not to express their opinions, however outrageous or upsetting they may be, is like asking them to stop expressing themselves in anyway. Fear of conflict creates stagnancy, which is much worse than any other outcome (I'm not supporting the Tibetan conflict, but rather this conflict on DA). We should always fight for what we think is right, and people should always fight us for what they think is right, or else nobody progresses through knowledge and we all end up believing whatever. For example, if I believed all pigs fly, then I would never learn otherwise until somebody (or something) contested my point. Please, never stop arguing, fighting, biting, kicking for what you believe in. Ever.

On the matter of the Olympics, the location is very important. The host not only gets to host an international event, but also shows itself as capable of hosting such an event. This can open many doors, both politically and economically, and for a country like China can serve as its inauguration into global acceptance. The olympics can make or break an entier country. Sports have a very unifying energy about them, and will help decide China's role in the world in the next few years. It's the same with South Africa, holding the FIFA cup in 2010 or the (possibly) Olympics in 2020.

Now I hope somebody will fight me.

I haven't seen one worthwhile argument in this entire thread except for one kid, who's waving the banner of "Native Americans." (Which I hate because of its tone.)

Look, I'm aware of it. I could go back and find lots of genocides and alien populations taking over the space. Perhaps people think it's still early enough to make a difference in Tibet? Besides, the sociopolitical environments in America and Tibet are not equatable. Not in the least.

That all said, the Lakota, I think it was, declared independence recently. I don't believe a military strike was employed to keep them down.

Bannanaluv In reply to risius [2008-03-29 15:22:00 +0000 UTC]

I'm not really following your "counter-point" , because really, I was agreeing with your first statement. When I spoke of fighting for what you believe in, I didn't necesarily mean physically and I definitely wasn't speaking of the conflict between Tibet and China; I was stating my beliefs and how they relate to the artist's comments asking us not to argue on DA. I really don't see any correlation between my previous comment and your reply to it.

Wow, nice comment. I have to admire womeone who takes a stand. It's very honorable. I agree that DA is becoming too.... gossipy and too political for my taste. Art should be our only focus on this site and thing just somehow turn into political issues that couldn't have less to do with what DA was founded to do.

I don't know what exactly that Tibet problem is, but I don't think the olympics should be cancelled. The olympics, in my opinion, is a brief time and place from the world has a whole to come together and not think about fighting and war, and only honoring our counties, and competeing and rooting the athletes on.

And anyway, wonderful art as always. You are one of my favorite artists of all time!

Er...What does tibet have to do with this?

I say to hell with tibet, hell with the rest of the world only thing that matter is what's in front of you. Not like we can change anything, leave that for the billionaires and the politicians. Besides, how do we know what we're hearing is true? Could all be media spun paranoia (ever read 1984?) you never know ! That's the point; until you know, you cannot act. Acting results in hysteria. "Reaction" is what we need and we need that when we truly know what both sides of the issue are and IF (sometimes there's nothing to be done) there is anything to do.

The art is amazing, by the way.
