My part of the art trade with the fantastic artistI drew her very cool character Rascal and she has drawn Stian
- see her beautiful work here:
I couldn't resist the temptation to make a similar drawing of Stian (I always need an excuse to draw Stian...)with the title 'Forces of the Northern Lights' - based on some lines from Dimmu Borgir.
Anyway please DON'T spam me with questions for art trades . In most of the cases I will say NO ... so don't be disappointed . IF I would do an art trade it's either because ask for it myself, or else I must be seriously impressed by your work. This is not because I don't like your work, but because a lack of time pushes me to be really picky. AND I want to have time to draw my own characters + comic.

awesome work on both parts of the trade 
this looks really dynamic and I love the pose and how well you pulled of the for-shortening (which is like, fucking hard to draw :'D) the green lit sky and the way the trees are drawn also really helps with creating a sense of action and intensity in this 
ah I can understand why you don't do art trades are are very picky, I'm sure people would line up to do an art trade with you if you allowed anyone to ask

Thanks!! I must say that I actually had to look up what for-shortening in art actually means, I think it came more or less naturally. Although I have read some stuff about perspective drawing before XD. But sometimes I really mess up perspective elements. Maybe this was a lucky outcome
Anyway yeah, it's because otherwise I get spammed with people that draw like a three-years-old and then I'm basically doing requests all the time. And as I'm working on two graphic novels at the same time, doing a lot of sport and other hobbies, on top of doing a PhD, I'm a bit fully booked

no problem! it's really difficult to get the hang of it unless you've practiced for months or even years, so it is very impressive when you can pull it off
hm the perspective in your drawings usually look really amazing to me
oh yeah then you would indeed basically do requests. no offense to those who are starting out with drawing but what I noticed is that the better you get at drawing, the more time and effort it takes to make them. I dunno if this is the case with everyone but that's what I have noticed.
in my case I don't quickly do arttrades cause when I am afraid the other end wouldn't care to get my characters right (which I personally try the best I possibly can when drawing other characters), but I've heard from the few people who did draw them that they are difficult to draw. so I feel like it wouldn't be fair of a trade in the first place

It turned out really epic! And I´ll be honest, you´re the first one who got the shape of his face right! That´s really how he´s supposed to look like!
Also the fur looks so soft on his neck I wanna bury my face in it<3

Ha thank ye as well for wanting an art-trade!! Ha and really? I have seen some wonderful Rascal-art by other people, but I think I see what you mean. He has a very unique face and expression and it seems that many people stick too much to the references of what they assume has been inspiration for him (like lions or something) - this is a very dangerous pitfall I think. I have seen it very often with my own characters too, that people stick to photoreferences, rather than that they look at the charactersheet of the character itself (making siderians look either too much like panterines or too much like domestic cats). But anyway I'm very very glad that you like the outcome (as I am with the drawing you made of Stian

People think that the way I draw Rascal on his refs is "just my style", but he´s really supposed to look like that :"D
that´s why I always say to take it how it is, how it looks like.Creatures like him don´t exist in real life anyway, so people can´t use photo references for him except his own ref sheets...

Ha yeah exactly! I often experience the same problem too - people think it's just the artist's style and don't realize that the character really IS like that. For example, Stian's neckfur doesn't excist in any animal (except humans - which are animals too), so it's difficult with refs there - except human-hair. As for his eyes, facial anatomy and his unique body-build - especially that. So I'm very happy that you managed to get Stian's narrow but powerful bodybuild right some people draw him with a far too big butt, while he nearly doesn't have one . OMG and I would LOVE to do a collab somehow!!!

Yes, but on the other hand I can´t get mad at people who still draw Rascal as a normal lion with hooves and horns, because I myself used to draw him like that. I changed his anatomy and face not so long ago so I guess people are still getting used to it :"D
And Stian´s anatomy is really unique indeed, I was studying his reference sheet the whole time o.o

Yeah indeed, it's a challenge to keep people up-to-date when you change the design or your species/character. Have changed my species quite a lot as well, and it took a while before everybody kinda got that. Ha and yeah I see that back in your drawing, it paid off!
Hmm I can start thinking about some ideas already - it's cool that they are both kinda devils from Scandinavia mwahaha. Dunno how you usually do collabs; as in exchanging huge psd files and deciding who does what in the drawing- I have never done collabs over internet but I'm excited to try this with you!! We can keep each other updated by note XD

Either someone draws the characters and the otherone does the background,
or someone makes the sketch,coloring,basic background, and the otherone does the lineart,shading and effects for the background ^^

Ha ok, let's run wild then 8D. I think that we can at least sketch and line our own characters (that is what I'm used to do when I do collabs with friends) and then we can just send it back and forth all the time and decide who does in terms of background, colouring ect.
Do you have any ideas already? You're very good at drawing nice poses, cool backgrounds and spectacular lighting effects, so I would say: just run wild! I will start thinking about ideas too and maybe do some composition sketching. We will see

Dunno what was going on here, but I must say that I have never ever seen a link with Scar Oo. It seems to be the same thing as people seeing everything as a wolf. When siderians are seen as wolves, I get seriously pissed too...

It seems to be difficult for some people to just accept him as how he is - is just...Rascal! People seem to have the tendency to place characters in boxes or stick lables on them - rather than just accepting a characters uniquity.

I love the aurora. It adds that eerie feeling to the character's expression. He looks like a monster, waiting to kill. Good job on the colour balance, too.

Thanks! Yeah that's how one can describe Rascal I think (damn I love that character!). Hm the colours were a bit challenging (as always) - but it came out more or less fine.
